Into the Night

I remember this from the 80’s. Bizarre, but really enjoyable, especially when you watch it into the night.

This was, and remains, a completely silly and yet fully entertaining film that apparently didn't connect with reviewers in the news media who didn't get it. I remember being somewhat frustrated by Jeff Goldblum's flat, nearly lethargic character when the film first came out, but it grew on me with subsequent viewings. Fun to spot some other well-known drectors in cameo parts, as well as David Bowie playing an assassin of all things. A slice of '80s zeitgeist, including the prominence of the aerospace industry in L.A. at that time, and details like the obnoxious Pete Ellis car commrecials that were omnipresent then (and watched uncomprehendingly by one of the bad-guy thugs). John Landis was obviously not trying to make a masterpiece of filmmaking here -- just an entertaining, well made (as always) chase movie that was also a portrayal of the unique ambience of L.A. Well worth a watch.

This was one of the best underrated comedies of the early 80s. I can’t understand why it isn’t seen on FX, TNT or TBS anywhere. Jeff and Michelle fit well together. David Bowie was convincing as a man of danger.
