Description

Party Dream is the story of Gil Mantera's Party Dream - the craziest live band you've never seen. We follow Ultimate Donny and Gil Mantera's life as unlikely step-brothers, growing up in hard-scrabble Youngstown, Ohio. Footage from their insane live show provides a vicarious thrill, fueled by electronic rock, ridiculous fashion and no small amount of booze. As Patrick Carney (The Black Keys) says in the film, "A few of their shows were some of the funniest things I've ever seen happen in person. It was all pretty genius.” Once the party starts to fizzle, we witness two brothers driven in opposite directions by the hard reality of the music business. One, a mysterious figure. The other, a gregarious frontman searching for new beginnings. Could there ever be a chance at a reunion? Or is it too late to grasp the Party Dream?

I saw this at the Sherman Oaks FF and loved it. I had no idea about the band or their story but I became a fan instantly. I really liked the way the story teller unraveled the story and wove in the music. I hope they can get the rest of the story and make another film. I will watch it!

I always wanted to know what happened to Gil Mantera and Ultimate Donny since we closed out our wedding with Buffalo Tears. Best live show ever, and yes, they lived up to the hype. So does this movie!

I saw the documentary “Party Dream” at the Sherman Oaks Film Festival and I swear to you it was more than just a great, fun, and inspiring movie. I loved it so much I bought it on iTunes as a pre-order. The band featured, “Gil Mantera’s Party Dream,” was so outrageously entertaining that I assumed this was a mockumentary at first with a band played by actors. But NO. They’re real and the people who made this film put together their story in an amazingly entertaining and insightful way. If you love indie rock that gives the finger to the corporate establishment known as the music industry, then this doc will not only entertain you but soon you’ll be singing the songs around the house and downloading their music. Is that life changing? Heck yeah. I’m old. You know how often I discover new bands? Yeah, never. But in 2022 this doc helped me discover Gil Mantera’s Party Dream and I will be forever grateful.

I was lucky enough to see this in a theater in LA before it’s release. I never got to see the band live and this movie made me wish I could change that. Such wild entertaining performers with great music. The movie was so well done and told a great story. It’s amazing the clips from past shows they were able to get for this. And the band member who was interviewed throughout is so likeable.

I followed Gil Mantera’s Party Dream around Ohio from 2006 to their mysterious break up in 2010. It was one of the happiest times of my life. This documentary instantly brought me back to being in college and dancing the night away with the greatest band to ever do it. If you’re a soul commander who followed the party dream movement, this documentary does the band justice and you’ll love it. If you’ve never heard of Gil and Donny, this is the closest you’ll get to experiencing the greatest live band to ever exist. Long live Gil Mantera’s Party Dream!
