Description

From Jurassic Park and Westworld creator Michael Crichton comes an epic adventure filled with state-of-the-art technology and primal fear. They have eluded heat-seeking missiles, gone eyeball-to-eyeball with enraged 5,000-pound hippos, and hacked through a jungle curtain. Now a gorilla named Amy will lead a University experiment team back to her home—the fabled Lost City of Zinj. But what they don't know can be fatal, and once humans enter this world, they’ll be the endangered species.

  • B Flick Fun on an “A” List Budget

Ernie Hudson is so likable here it’s easy to imagine him playing the role of a “great white hunter, who just happens to be black” in further adventures, but alas we only got one adventure with him as Monroe. He plays supporting role as an expert guide in this b flick style jungle adventure (but with top notch production values) about a group that heads deep into the Congo, each with their own motivations for risking the journey. One is on a rescue mission, one is looking for a legendary treasure and the last wants to set an extraordinary gorilla free. There are animal attacks, a civil war, a massive volcano and creatures guarding a lost city. It’s great fun from the director of Arachnophobia, with an exciting score from 18 time Academy Award nominee Jerry Goldsmith and cameos by Bruce Campbell, Delroy Lindo, Joe Don Baker and Joe Pantoliano.

If your a guy like me that likes horror movies and action movies, this is a movie I'd recommend. It has a perfect blend of scaring horror and intense action.

Is this movie good? Not really. But will you enjoy it if you're in the right mood? Absolutely. Some all-time classic scenes you will never forget especially the ending: a freaking laser battle vs. evil attacker monkeys inside a volcano. I'll let you decide if that's worth $2.99.
  • The book was good, this wasn't...

The book had some really interesting battles between the high tech humans and the relentless gorilla attackers. The movie version strips away everything that was interesting about the story, and waters it down to the point that it looks like they're reproducing a comic book. I understand a lot needs to be cut in the interest of time but it's as if they cut the IQ factor to reach a broader, and presumably dumber, audience as well.
  • The book is great
