Description

Based on the best selling novel by Thomas Harris, "Hannibal" continues the story begun in "The Silence of the Lambs." Seven years have passed since Dr. Hannibal Lecter escaped from custody, seven years since FBI Agent Clarice Starling interviewed him in a maximum-security hospital for the criminally insane. The doctor is now at large in Italy, pursuing his own interests, savoring the scents, the essences of the unguarded world. But Starling has never forgotten her encounters with Dr. Lecter – his seldom-used voice still haunts her dreams. Mason Verger remembers Dr. Lecter as well, and is obsessed with revenge. Verger was Dr. Lecter’s sixth victim, and although hideously disfigured, he survived. In order to draw Dr. Lecter into the open, Verger uses Clarice Starling as bait.

Would give zero stars to this...NO WAY like Silence Of The Lambs, not true to the book, campy and tired. Not scary or interesting in the least. Julianne Moore made an awful, washed out and flat charactered Clarice. DeLaurentis needs to stick to what he does well and they should have paid Demme to direct again. Hated it.

I’ve seen all the movies, and I intend to begin watching the show. All the movies have a different feel for many reasons. Different actors, directors, etc. this movie would have been bettered by having the original actress play Clarice, as well as having a somewhat competent editor. There were multiple editing flaws in which something drastic changes when the perspective of the camera changes. The way the story is told is a bit odd. It’s not fluid and some of it seems quite silly. They try to do some bait and switch stuff that I guess is supposed to add to the movie, but to the causal viewer could be easily missed. Anthony Hopkins is the only redeeming quality of this movie. Even he seems a tiny bit out of character.
  • SHOULD HAVE FOLLOWED THE BOOK

The movie had potential, but veered from the book too much for my liking. I enjoyed the ending of the book, when Starling and Lecter go away together, and she becomes his new love interest. Bon appetite!

Once again Rotten Tomatoes is clueless. This movie is suspenseful and makes me a fan of Hannibal even more. Clarice is a great choice this time and she is even more believable. Great movie - totally recommended.

I just finished watching the movie for the first time ever. I remember seeing the movie on display when I use to work for “Blockbuster Video” never was interested until I read Sherry Shriner latest book title “Interview with the Devil.” I also use to see “silence of the lambs” on display when I use to work at blockbuster video but also never watch that movie also. I am not a huge horror fan, but these types of movies show you the degree of deranged minds in Hollywood also in real life.
  • Almost as good as Silence

Julianne Moore is not Jody Foster. Otherwise, this is an excellent film. It has a more refined approach than Silence of the Lambs, targeting an audience that may have a greater familiarity with classic history. Obvious story element aside it does have a more operatic feel. It certainly takes things to a higher level than the "haunted house" feel of Lambs. It is also great to see the connections with supporting characters in Lambs and Gary Oldman is truly great in this film.
  • A very good meal for the mind

I loved how Dr. Lecter just plans ahead. The Psychological Horror appeals to the mind, even though he is never the antagonist.
