You might like this movie if you're a teenager, especially if you're the kind that fantasizes about torturing neighborhood house cats. My advice, you don't actually have to suffer this way, therapy can change your life. If you're an edge-lord adjacent young adult you might like this movie, but maybe you should consider growing up, getting a real relationship, where you actually care about someone, not just the idea of having a girlfriend. At the very least you'd be better off touching grass instead. Everyone else, anyone who has ever loved someone, especially if you have ever seen them suffer, don't give this evil movie a minute of your time or a penny of your money. This is an emotional snuff movie and the victim is you. Haneke is more than a misanthrope, he is a sadist, his goal is to hurt you. I realize this may sound perversely intriguing. Don't bite. Watching this movie only brings more evil into the world, much in the way watching kiddie porn just because you're 'curious' does; you have become an enabler. Be an adult and choose something else. I was going to close by wishing bankruptcy on Haneke, but really I'd like him to grow up and repent for his actions, maybe try and bring some love or beauty into this poor suffering world of ours.
  • A psychological take on the home invasion movie.

It’s definitely not a horror movie, and the only violence that’s shown onscreen is a guy being kicked in the leg. That being said, it’s a dark movie that doesn’t hesitate to cross boundaries that few movies will cross. The actors playing the two young men are very good, and what makes them scary is that they feel like sociopaths who don’t get a thrill out of hurting people. They do it because it *doesn’t* affect them.

This movies does what other horror movies fail to provide. You go into this moving expecting one thing, and are left with something different but still satisfying. Not a lot of horror movies have the plot like Funny Games. It’s brutal but nothing like Saw or Hostel brutal (🤮) i wouldn’t listen to the bad reviews, give this a chance

  • Literally why do people think this movie is bad

This film is literally supposed to make you feel horrible. Between the unexpected (but in my opinion, expected) clean-cut terrorists to the gaslighting and undermining of the only female protagonist, to the fantasy-like cutting of time and dimension— the audience is SUPPOSED to feel completely helpless and self-conscious (maybe even guilty.) That helpless affect is literally the point of the film and it's brought home by the relentless repetition of these crimes from neighbor to neighbor along with the final boat conversation about reality vs fiction. Should we relish in the fact that this is literally just a movie and these are just depictions of violence? If it's fiction but hurts to watch, does it make it any less real?

This has to be one of the worst movies I have ever wasted a moment of time to watch. Spoiler> Every decent person shown on the screen (nearly) is killed, man, woman, & child, some in very disgusting ways, when it was absolutely not necessary. So why in the world even make such a pitiful movie, if it is not a documentary? There have been several true stories movies that were made & did not equate this.....so why? And if you like this movie at all, there is obvsiouly something wrong with you, or you are pumping this up for the studio or those involved that made it.

If all you Flippin Artsy phucks out there think this is “profound”, “inspirational”, “among the best films ever”, “A Masterpiece not to be forgotten”, I have a few words for you. You, along with the writers, directors, and producers of this film, hold no place in a civilized society. You are all utterly deplorable, and as this film was a mistake to have been allowed to find its way to iTunes, it was a mistake that your mother’s afforded you the privilege of not only entering this world in which we all share, but of not taking you by your feet and slamming your head against a concrete post. Oh, does that seem harsh to you? To anybody? Well, this film is no less harsh. Actually, this film is a thesis in unchecked human depravity, and for no reason at all. It was as if the film makers, and those who support it, took pleasure in raping their viewers, and enjoyed violating their inner beings. For all you that argue that this is a exposition of some of the darker aspects of human conscience, I feel more that this film is the siren call to all those with no conscience at all. A love letter to the basest of humanity, and an invitation of Hell on Earth. “Free Speech you roar!!! Freedom of Expression you hiss!!” You vipers. This film has nothing to do with either one of those rights. This film is nothing more than the allowance of diseased minds being set free. Curse this film. Curse its writers. Curse its directors, and producers. And curse all of you who argue for this film to be given unfettered prominence in the film industry, and among the people of this world. I curse you with the same curse that this film brings. This film is a curse from Hell, and to all you how love it, and defend it’s right to exist, I wonder how much you would enjoy it were you where were being tortured and raped, made to watch your family be tortured and raped, and murdered in front of your eyes. Would you fight for it then, would you argue for it then. You are pathetic, and so is this film.

Horrible movie, one of the worst movies I have ever watched. One night I was watching TV, I flipped through the guide and I decided to watch this movie, big mistake. The story is about this family who stays at their summer house or whatever. These two guys come from their backyard which in on a small lake. These guys play torture games on this family. The plot disgusts me, the acting is poor, and overall, the movie is really boring especially the time it took on TV to watch it ( 2 hours and 30 minutes). I don't recommend that you waste your time on this movie and instead watch The Godfather. Plot- 2/10 Boring storyline, you will probably fall asleep half-way through, or you may want to watch something else Acting- 4/10 Good actors, horrible supporting actors though. Watts and Roth play in this bogus movie. The supporting actors really need more practicing. Redeeming Value- 1/10 None, after you watch this movie (if you ever decide to finish it that is) you may not want to watch it ever again. Overall score- 2/10
