Description

Staying Alives takes Saturday Night Fever’s Tony Manero out of Brooklyn to Broadway. As a wannabe dancer struggling to make it on the stage, John Travolta is at his sexy, sizzling best. Girl-next-door Cynthia Rhodes (Flashdance, Dirty Dancing) and vampy Finola Hughes (General Hospital, All My Children) compete for Tony’s heart. Co-written and directed by superstar Sylvester Stallone, Staying Alive features an electrifying Bee Gees soundtrack and some of the most memorable dance sequences ever staged on screen.

It owns the gaudy, jazz hands, satin, portion of the early 80's shamelessly but that is no reason to knock it! If anything it makes it that much more an amazing time capsule. I have seen these movie over the years since it came out and every time I notice that I cry during the entire 3rd act (the broadway opening night segment). I always try to wrap my head around how this might be a bad movie and I cannot find it! One of y favorites and not in a guilty pleasure way!

Only thing Genius has recommended to me and although I didn't buy or rent it, I have seen it once. That is all I needed for this movie. Thank you Genius. Now I just need a Sarcastic Bar...

The music (especially the Bee Gee tracks), the characters, the actors, and most importantly New York City are all incredibly enjoyable! This movie does a great job of showing how freakin' tough it is to get a shot in NYC. If entertaining is your thing, whether you are a musician, actor, or dancer this movie can be very inspirational! I absolutely love Saturday Night Fever, but they are two entirely different movies. With that said, go watch Saturday Night Fever, and then watch Staying Alive and enjoy them both for the entertainment that they offer. Forget about trying to tie them together.

Staying Alive is an underrrated movie. Compared to Saturday Night Fever it's a HORRIBLE movie. However, if you pretend that SNF never existed and this movie was a stand alone movie, it's actually pretty enjoyable. The acting is ok; the songs are catchy; the dance finale, while visually strange, seems to capture both the emotions of the protagonist and the antagonist, and it features one of the most beautiful actresses of the early 80's: Cynthia Rhodes. She ALMOST redeems this movie, given her believably emotional singing number near the end of the second act. If this movie was given another title, left out any trace of it's predecessor, and John Travolta's character was given another name, this movie would be good. Not Oscar-worthy good, but WAAAY better than it is now.
  • Worst movie ever!!!

This is a very intresting movie for many diffrent reasons. First off, it is the worst movie of all time in every catagory(acting, writing, directing, music, etc.). And I'm not even exaggerating. But the thing about this is that it's so bad, you HAVE to see it. Everything is so terrible, that I couldn't stop laughing during it. It is also an intresting movie because of what came before it. It is the sequal to a classic movie in Saturday Night Fever which makes it all even more funny. Also making this bombshell of a movie even MORE funny is the man who wrote and directed it. Sylvester Stallone is one of the most famous actors ever. Him writing and directing this movie is the icing on the cake. Try to picture a movie that is so incredably bad that it just has to be watched. There is not one good scene in this movie. NOT ONE! The fact that someone even came up with the idea for this movie is beyond my imagination. But I have to admit, Staying Alive is the worst movie of all time, but it's definatly not my least favorite.

This is one of only two films I repeatedly saw as a kid (the other being Aliens). If you like Travolta and the Bee Gees, you'll like this film. I tip my hat to Stallone! And I agree, iTunes needs to get the soundtrack!! Why isn't it available?
