Description

Pressured by a greedy uncle (Brian Cox) and a pile of debt, lovable loser Steve Barker (Johnny Knoxville) resorts to an unthinkable, contemptible, just-crazy-enough-to-work scheme. He pretends to be mentally challenged to rig the upcoming Special Olympics and bring home the gold. But when Steve's fellow competitors get wise to the con, they inspire him to rise to the greatest challenge of all: becoming a better person. Produced by the fearless Farrelly Brothers (There's Something About Mary, Shallow Hal), The Ringer will keep you smiling all the way to the finish line!

Having grown up in a family that worked with the handicapped/capable/disabled I was very sketchy of this movie. I did not know going into it whether I would shake my head at is humor or not. I did not know that I would end up appreciating its comedic value and feeling good at the end. It might be a slightly pretentious message, but honestly when one considers it, the message is a primary goal as it concerns self-acceptance and accepting one another for our flaws and strengths. You can't have a movie like this without that message being apart of it. Overall I enjoyed this movie and recommended it to my father who has been working with the disabled since he was 16. He is very sensitive towards them I think even he was able to appreciate this movie.
