Great black comedy / romantic comedy. Enjoyable from beginning to end. Fantastic, witty dialogue.

This movie is supposedly set in rural Minnesota in an crossroads town that wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for the factory. A lot of small towns across the US grew because of such a nuance and with the loss of so many mfg jobs in recent years a number of these same towns are now facing the same dilemma. Zellweger is a corporate exec in a very much “good old boys” club boardroom who gets handed the job of making a rural MN plant updated or else. She meets the townsfolk, and from the “small town” atmosphere it is very much accurate (everyone knows everything about everyone and a outsider is very much the point of magnified focus and gossip) Z’s character attempts to acclimate to her surroundings and picks up some friends along the way. Many of the accents and colloquialisms are very much “over the top” but done in a tongue in cheek way. It’s funny the way a few of the reviews from the area thought they were trying to give real accents! (Its a comedy, DUH, reality isn’t the point) If you can take it for a fun comedy, you’ll enjoy this movie. If your looking for geographic, or other accurate representation, then this isn’t for you.

Such a wonderful treat to spend an hour enjoying a human experience without guns, violence, only love and laughter and humans growing in love and care. And comedy and fun.
  • Contrived and trivial

I'll just say this; I'm actually FROM the town of New Ulm, Mn, where this film is "set," and the ONLY thing they got right about the town, the state, and the people, is the freakin name of the city. What some actors and actresses will do for money....

This is a feel-good movie that I can sit and watch with my mom and laugh. Since she was displaced to MN, she could relate to a lot of what the main character was going through.
  • Awful, terrible, horrible! Do not waste your time!

Cute little shallow movie for when you cannot handle a heavy story line. Performances by the non-marquee actors were far and away better than the 2 big-name stars who obviously went with the first take on every scene. Was this actually shot in Minnesota? Really terrific scenery. As I say, very nice for a brain vacation.
