Description

Through very lovable and entertaining choreography, an incredibly talented French street dancer leaves Europe with a one-way ticket to Hollywood to show the world a style of dance they've never seen before. Along his strides reaching for his dreams he discovers that through dancing backwards he can actually rewind time! Staring 'Salah' (Salah Benlemqawanssa), the world famous dance performer and winner of the hit French TV show Incroyable Talent, with appearances by 'Lockadelic' (Celine Thubert Cole) and 'Bboy Colione' (Cole Walliser), this amusing non-stop dancing musical short received a Regional Student Oscar ® nomination and was a favorite at the Cannes Short Film Corner and the Los Angeles Downtown Film Festival.

The story was simple. Nothing deep, convoluted, or even particularly stunning, but what really stood out about BEATS PER MINUTE to me was its stylistic brilliance. Everything from the music video-esque editing and artsy placement of subtitles, to the contrasty, popping color scheme and effective use of camera movement, to the funky original score and Run Lola Run-meets-SPIN tone, this is a very fun watch. It's a masterfully concocted piece of pure rhythm.

Salah Benlemqawanssa is just an amazing dancer. Each movement he makes precisely matches the rhythm and beat of the music. This short film has fantastic story telling and use of camera angles and lighting effects. I absolutely loved the scene where Salah is dancing in the studio and the lights turn on and off at his command. Dancing DJ has great charisma and charm. Great film and well worth the download!

This is an incredible short! The choreography of Salah's dance moves are stunning, and reminiscent of the 'Bullet-Time' effect from The Matrix! The dialogue spoken in French, and displayed in text was interesting as well. The synchronization between the beats and lighting effects is mesmerizing! This is definitely worth the $1.99 price of admission!
