  • A good story poorly told

This has the makings of a good movie but it is very sketchy and slow. They had everything they needed to make a great film from this content, but in the end it makes me wonder if the editor had any idea what the story is about, while the director simply told him what to do. The result was that the director did a bad job of telling the story. In the end you have a good idea of what happened, but it is such a convoluted mess that you might not be quite sure. This film barely broke even on global release and it tanked in the States. No wonder. It could have been great but instead what we get is a rambling, boring, sleepy tale about the politics of oil.

This is definately one of Clooney's best performances. The episodic nature of this film makes it a bit hard to follow but it's worth the watch.

Thoughtful, intelligent, bleak and realistic ,Syriana should be required viewing for anyone who believes more boots on the ground is an option in the Middle East.
