Description

Three friends who grew up in working-class Boston drift apart after a terrible tragedy. Years later, brutal events reconnect them. Jimmy's 19-year-old daughter is coldly murdered. Dave is a suspect. And Sean, now a cop, scrambles to solve the crime before volatile Jimmy takes the law into his own hands. Working from Brian Helgeland's adaptation of Dennis Lehane's novel, director Clint Eastwood shapes a masterful, brooding thriller built on family, friends and innocence lost. Sean Penn, Tim Robbins and Kevin Bacon play the pivotal threesome, joining Laurence Fishburne, Marcia Gay Harden and Laura Linney in one of the most powerful casts ever.

One of the most superbly executed films of all time. Clint Eastwood is notorious for just filming one or two takes before moving onto the next, so the actors in this film must have really done their homework and prepared prior to that first day on set because this is some of the best acting you’re going to see in your lifetime. The very first time I saw this, although it was one of the most well made movies I’d ever seen, I found myself wondering how could someone make a movie about this subject matter. So depraved and tragic. I told myself I never need to see this movie again because of its dark and twisted journey. As the movie ended, i was left with a couple questions that I needed answered.... answered right away. I ended up immediately watching it again. Now that the damage has been done to my soul I suppose it’s easier for me to watch. I’ve seen this film probably 30 times now. One of the best of all time. If you’ve ever wondered why Sean Penn’s acting ability is so much better than his peers, it’s because he doesn’t act; he becomes.
