Description

In August, 2008, 18 mountain climbers reached the top of K2. 48 hours later, 11 people were dead. While memorials paid tribute to those killed, there were also condemnations about ‘the why.' Why do these athletes risk everything to reach a place humans are simply not meant to go? With breathtaking cinematography and jaw dropping reenactments based on the testimony of those who survived the climb, this thrilling film is about the very nature of adventure in the modern world.

  • Bravery I'll Never Pretend to Possess

Disclaimer: I am not a climber. I was blown away not only by Pemba, Ger, and Marco's heroism, but by the effect that the lack of oxygen had on the memories of the men and the woman who almost perished on K2 in 2008 (everyone had a different story). The K2 footage was gorgeous, down to the ominous pointed shadow of K2. There was a confusing story structure to the film, however, with the interspersed commentary of the 1954 Italian climber. I wasn't always sure whose story I was following. Perhaps that confusion was the point. Overall a great film, however. The spirit of K2, sparkling, mocking, and deceptively out of reach, is no friend to Hominidae.

To see these men and women deep love for the sport and the risk there lives to chase a dream. I can only wish I could do something like that. But then again I’m not that crazy anymore. ; )

The Summit isn’t just a run-of-the-mill docudrama of a tragedy. The movie also honors the actions of admirable mountaineers like Ger MacDonald, Marco and Pemba. These men resisted the temptation of the “every man for himself" mentality that high-altitude climbers face when things get dangerous. Instead, they risked their lives, and in one case gave their life, in an effort to save their fellow climbers. They are an inspiration to climbers everywhere, and this movie honors their strength and character!

The movie left me hanging. How did the people get past the traverse after the ice took down the fixed ropes?
  • Great movie as i watched it twice

Very well done as the scenery was fantastic and the ones who lived to tell the story did such an incredible job.Cecilie Skog is such a very beautiful woman and survived K2 by such a narrow margin while losing her husband in the accident! I will definitely buy this movie! Thumbs Up!!!!!!!!

The storyline is a bit disjointed and confusing. The participants were also confused and oxygen deprived at the time. Character exploration was revealing and interesting. Never could determine if they brought that dead body down to Camp 4. These and movies like them continue to demonstrate the lack of organization and professionalism that could be applied to exploration efforts. These activities should only be attempted by certified professionals with proper equipment and military style organization. Otherwise, the results are more likely as is depicted.

Just because you lack the motivation to leave your own house and consider walking two blocks extreme exercise and adventure, maybe you should care. Perhaps this will give others inspiration to try something amazing in their own lives and risk their life doing it instead of watching and easily criticizing . Now , go for a walk. You need it.

It only works for those who know something of the events of August 2008. It helps even more to know something of mountaineering and the deadly history of K2.
  • Summit - NO. Who cares

Some climbers climbed one of the most dangerous peaks in the world where one in four climbers die. So, some climbers died. The editing is horrible, the survivors were oxygen deprived and don't really remember events exactly. WHO CARES! You climb this mountain and you are nearly committing suicide. Why should I care?
