Bob Chepek, shortly before he was summarily fired by the Disney board of directors, said in an interview ”I always say that when [parents] put their kids to bed at night after watching [an animated film], they're probably not going to tune into another animated movie. They want something for them.” This special is the sum total of Bob Chepek’s thoughts on animation. It has so little originality that your kids will fall asleep from lack of interest in the first 5 minutes and you’ll be desperate to watch ANYTHING else within the next 5. While the stop motion was beautiful, despite access to some of the most storied characters in animation history, it somehow manages to write them with so little personality you could replace them with pet rocks and the rocks would express more personality. The story is so unoriginal it’s hard to remember–even after repeat viewings. Mickey and the rest of the super six accidentally cause Santa to crash and have to help rebuild the toys and deliver them to the children in the town next door. There are no obstacles for them to overcome, no moral dilemmas to work through, they just go through the paces like this special. If you want to see Mickey Mouse celebrate Christmas, I highly recommend you pick up “Duck the Halls: A Mickey Mouse Christmas Special '' It's inventive, funny, heartfelt, and one of the top 10 christmas specials of all time. If you want the equivalent of numbing your family's brains with novacane until they have the consistency of Jello, go ahead and pick this special up.
