Description

Get ready to see the new face of American war. HBO presents this seven-part miniseries that focuses on the first 40 days of the war in Iraq as seen through the eyes of the elite group of U.S. Marines who spearheaded the invasion. Based on Evan Wright's 2004 non-fiction book, the miniseries follows the First Recon Marine division as they gathered reconnaissance from behind enemy lines and led the attack on Iraq in March of 2003. The result is a vivid account of the soldiers who rode alongside Wright (an embedded journalist working for Rolling Stone magazine) for two months--and of the collective forces that guided these highly trained Marines in an often-improvised initiative aimed at liberating Iraq from the control of Saddam Hussein.

This series is amazing. Excellently acted, well written, and addictive to watch. I’ve recommended it to five other people, all different lifestyles and personalities, and they all loved it as much as I did.

This is liberal, disgraceful garbage. It’s like they took every isolated negative incident that’s happened with our Marines, and tried to paint every Marine that way. What’s even more egregious, it seems they have people who claim to be Marines writing reviews saying this is accurate! NOTHING COULD BE FARTHER FROM THE TRUTH. I’m a third generation Marine who’s been on multiple deployments. I’ve got dozens of close friends who have served and continue to serve. 99.99% of our brave Marines are NOTHING like the way this series portrays them. I’m not a political man, but will tell you this is a new low for liberals. Everyone involved in the production should be ashamed.

This show has captured the very essence of what it's like to be a Marine grunt . i myself was in the Army, but I served in iraq, and know plenty of Marines, and from what I gather, this show is the real mccoy. Don't expect cheesy military cliches like everyone saluting each other for no good reason, and saying stupid stuff like, "permission to speak freely" or "sir, yes, sir" or "that's an order", you won't get none of that here. The writers did their homework and it pays off. Worth every penny.

The best description of what it's actually like over there. Amazing job.

This is not just another Iraq/US "the usual" story. Absolutely brilliant!

This was the most amazing, must see mini-series. I read the book and the screenwriters, directors really nailed it; I was taken on a journey I did not want to be on, yet couldn't take my eyes off the screen. They pulled every emotion out of me, I loved and hated it. I laughed/cried. I recommend this to anyone who wants to risk riding an emotional roller-coster, asking uncomfortable questions about war, and feeling guilt for being entertained.

Although there's a lot of driving and talking in Humvees, the characters are really well defined and the insight into the taking of Iraq terrific. There's enough "blowin' crap up" to keep the distracted interested, but the real strength of this series is the honest observations of Rolling Stone reporter Evan Wright.

i like it but there are plenty of other companys that were in irag that had better fire fights were better men had a more interesting story. this seris i felt like there was no one to root for. it made me feel like these are just men who failed high school so they decided to go into the marines it betrayed the marines badly at some points i would rather see john adams the pacific or band of brothers it is way better than this crap and those mini seris made me actual thankful for what our men did
