  • Shows a shocking bias. Not really a History documentary.

I bought this assuming that it was a History documentary but it really isn’t. It is hour after hour of Oliver Stone’s view of “history”. His viewpoint is mostly based on snippets of dialogue from obscure sources that support his distorted viewpoint. The bias is obvious and removes any thought of being taken seriously. Anyway, this is not real History, this is “history” Oliver’s view of it. I paid $4.99 and it was a ripoff.

For those born and raised in America, what do you remember about your education on American history? Fast forward to the present day; what is your opinion on American politics and its government? Oliver Stone’s masterful documentary tells a story of American history that was best left untold to its citizens. Too often, chauvinism and patriotism blind people not only from thinking critically but from connecting with humanity on a global scale. I respect Stone as a filmmaker and documentarian because he has done his research. This documentary shows how America became a giant military-industrial complex and how it is indeed a militaristic country, whose government affected the globe on a massive scale and perpetuated horrific acts throughout history. Stone uncovers the real face of American politics underneath all the American exceptionalism it’s citizens are fed since they are born. I understand how this documentary will rub many the wrong way simply because the idea of America is so tied to their identity that nothing should be allowed to threaten it. But I urge you to keep an open mind to information you may not have known before. Many say this is a biased portrayal of history. But perhaps that’s what I like about it. It’s very well researched, it doesn’t have an agenda, and it’s merely stating how American politics has caused so much suffering to humanity throughout the world.
  • Incomplete series

Blu-ray version of this documentary contains two bonus episodes, dealing with first part of the 20th century, as well as detailed interview with Oliver Stone and historians, discussing approach to the series. All these are essential to properly understanding the context of the documentary and they are missing from this digital presentation.
  • Great Footage - Can’t Trust the Numbers

Stone has clearly created a biased documentary full of hypothetical what-ifs. The information and insight does make you think, but have some resources available to verify if you decide to watch. He has a clear affection towards Stalin and negatively critics anyone in history with an America First thought process. The documentary contains some amazing imagery and scenarios that I did not know about (where the two stars come from).

Don't be fooled, this is not good history - good historians fight tooth and nail against the politicization of history. Oliver Stone would have better served himself and the public by titleing the series - "United States Untold history ACCORDING to Oliver Stone.". This is more on the side of propagandist history than objective history. Sad... since some of it is well presented.
  • Twisted view of history and antisemitic

Sorry to tell you: but he is obviously trying to change the whole point of view and make Russia the good guy and America the bad guy. And the Jews and Israel the very very bad ones! So Stone is an hypocrite antisemite who lacks in knowledge to become a good history teacher. Many countries have made atrocities and bad decisions, so if you want to truly learn history, without his bias, read a book about ww2 and the Cold War. Don't watch this. I regret I bought the tv show.
  • Ignores USSR Atrocities & Poltical manipulation

Mr Stone presents the US as a hostile, duplicitous aggressor. Whilst the Soviet union as a fair minded power which was constantly being unfairly deceived by the the US. It's a complete fantasy view that is more Mr Stones delusional vision of communism. Communism was a complete and total failure as a sytem of government and was only maintained by a Police state. Stalin was the greatest murderer in history, mostly of his own people. People should consider what a world dominated by Russia & China would look like. The US has had it's fair share of failures and acts of violence to innocents, however the overall thrust has always been for countries with democracy and personal individual freedoms.
  • Bias, Bias, and More Bias

Don't watch this if you're looking for simple facts without bias. You won't find it here. This is merely a platform for Stone to espouse is own personal ideology. Yes, he reveals some of the whitewashed half-truths that have been sold to the American public. But in the end this series is a vehicle for Stone to attempt to lay all the wrongs and atrocities committed by our country at the feet of conservatives alone. Just the opening line of episode 8 was enough to make my stomach turn. Therein he attributes the failure of Vietnam to conservatives when in earlier episodes he clearly explains that the beginning and escalation of the Vietnam conflict happened under JFK and LBJ, both Democrats, long before Nixon took the reigns. The most turbulent and divided our nation had been since the Civil War (the 60's) was while it was led by Democrats, Mr. Stone. Never forget that. I regret that I ever bothered to watch this.
  • Love the series so far
