Description

In the wake of the breakup of NWA, Death Row Records exploded on the music scene in 1993 with a “gangster rap” sound that took world by storm. Yet despite its unprecedented success with stars such as Dr. Dre, Snoop Doggy Dogg and Tupac, it quickly unraveled in a firestorm of rivalries, greed, violence and scrutiny by the government and the media as Marion “Suge” Knight’s unconventional business methods increasingly mirrored the violent, hard-edged themes of its music. This is the complete and untold story of this unique enterprise, told entirely in the words of the people who were there. It is an inside look at the American Dream gone insane. This summer's Straight Outta Compton was developed by the producers as a follow up to Welcome to Death Row.

I saw this film way back when it first was released direct-to-video in 2001–02 when a lot of “unauthorized” DVD’s were coming out about Death Row and, 2pac in particular. Of all of those films, this one is by far the best. The film features interviews with many of the original Death Row camp, including new interviews with Snoop, RBX, Nate Dogg (RIP), Jewell, and even Michael Harris (Harry-O). Interwoven are previously released interview segments with Dr. Dre, Eazy E, MC Ren, Suge, and 2pac. So, since you’re getting the story from the actual people, it’s worth a watch. The biggest complaint is that Interscope and Priority records would not agree using any of the original music so only Deep Cover is actually featured, as the rights to that song are still owned by Solar. I’ve watched this film many times and it’s still very entertaining if you grew up listening to gangsta rap like me.

I turned it off after about 1 minutes because it seemed like it was going to be "negative."

He used tupac for his music so got him killed. Dr dre and snoop both left death row after that.
