Description

A decade ago, Hope Ann Greggory (Melissa Rauch) was America's sweetheart. Her inspired performance on a ruptured achilles at the world's most prestigious gymnastics tournament clinched an unlikely bronze medal for the U.S. team and brought glory to her hometown of Amherst, Ohio. But in the years since that epic third place victory, Hope hasn't done a whole lot with her life. Still living in her dad Stan's (Gary Cole) basement, still sporting her daily uniform of a Team USA gym suit with teeny-bopper bangs, ponytail and scrunchie, she spends her days at the mall milking her minor celebrity for free food and favors. Hope's routine is upended when she learns that she must coach Amherst's newest gymnastics prodigy Maggie (Haley Lu Richardson) in order to receive a sizeable financial inheritance. The hard-edged yet insecure Hope is faced with a serious dilemma: does she jeopardize her "hometown hero" status by devotedly training this rising star to achieve the dreams she never could? Or does she attempt to sabotage the impressionable Maggie to ensure that she remains the one and only star in Amherst?

Laughed all the way through this movie. Watching Hope arch as a character but still remain the same in personality was great to watch. I definitely recommend this, if you like dark humor

So very funnnny I have to buy it now. Hysterical storyline, good pace, great script, super actors, great everything. And the girls character leaves me in stitches.. And yes, the warning strong ...Language throughout is very appropiate. Easely in the League of King Pin and Dumm and Dumber, and that is not easy to come even close to, in my opinion.
  • Kudos to Amherst

Disclaimer, I am from Amherst. Steele class of "85." So when I saw the description I obviously had to rent it. The movie isn't the funniest thing I have ever seen but it was definitly worth watching, and owning for that matter. She defilty does a great job at being raunchy. I did not go into this expecting to see anthing of reality. :-) All in all, I will buy it. I think I would if it was made in some other small town USA. BTW, some scenes were done at the Midway mall as well.
  • One of the best Rated R movies I've seen

It started out seemingly heartfelt, but in the most humorous way. I wasn't expecting to laugh so hard at all the colorful, yet brutal insults. And that gymnist sex scene? Literal tears in my eyes. Really a great movie with both heart and hilarity. 100/10, up there next to Deadpool. Also, major props to Sebastian Stan, so oppisite from his other roles! He did such a convincing job as the unlikable ex.
  • A really Stupid movie

I thought that I may give this movie a chance and see if it will get funny somewhere along the way? It was plain stupid! The main character over acted and there was not one ounce of reality to it. Don't bother paying for it if you have an ounce of intelligence. On the other hand if you are a teanager, you may find it funny. Who knows.
  • This movie is a little Rauchy, but in a good way...

I laughed and laughed watching this movie, but many times I felt sorry for the main character’s depravity and desperation. Melissa Rauch and her husband produced a Rauchy movie (okay, raunchy too) that makes you wish you could fix the main character yourself. Many characters could use a little more development and it does get a little slow in the middle, but there are some really funny moments sprinkled in and in the end she grows up and fixes herself. I’m not sure how she went through the whole movie using the made-up voice she uses, but this is not Bernadette from TBBT (sweet and gentle on helium, or deep and growly when mad). I’d almost have preferred her Bernadette voice with a little bit of Howard’s mother’s voice thrown in when things get emotionally charged. The one sex scene (read body double in some parts - pun intended) between two gymnasts will never be topped in movie history that has been or yet to be made, I’m sure. Overall, it’s really 3.6 stars, where anything over 3 stars is worth watching once, and 4 stars is worth owning. I’ll buy and watch twice...
