4 1/2 stars, but iTunes does not let you pick half stars. Before purchasing, I was not sure a single actor could carry the whole story. I was wrong, Blake Lively and the writers created an excellent suspenseful story. Yes, eye candy does not hurt...

Some people are annoyed by the fact that Blake kept grunting and moaning in pain but if you think about it, that part was actually very realistic and because of that, i didn’t mind it at all. The whole movie was pretty realistic except for the parts where they made the shark stronger than it’d be in real life, but then again, it IS a fictional movie so I personally got past those scenes. Overall I loved this movie and it’s not your average shark movie. It has a fair amount of enjoyable action too. I’d recommend giving it a shot.

As far as shark movies go, this is one of my favorites. Plenty of tense moments and hopes dashed. A weak backstory, but its there, and provides a nice tie off and the end of the movie. A great performance by Blake Lively.

I never understood the hype around this film. I couldn’t get into it and I left midway through the film. The movie was too drawn out and pointless. You couldn’t pay me to watch this again it was so bad. This isn’t the worst film I’ve ever seen but it was bad.
  • Not as good as Jaws

I think this was a decent movie though. I was kinda boring because it has parts where it doesn’t have many people in it and there wasn’t that shore in that many parts of a movie

Action Movie God Steven S. is in the movie and his method acting is worthy of an Academy Award! If it wasn't for him this movie would have been incredibly boring...that's how good he was. What more do you want?

I honestly believe that ratings pages should offer the option of giving negative stars. This would balance out the mindless simpletons who give anything they see a rave review complete with 5 star ratings. This steaming pile of manure is so terrible I would feel well within reason of giving it the dreaded and rarely used -5 star review. Spoilers Contained Let me set the mood, white woman with rudimentary grasp of the language sets off into the jungles of Mexico alone with a local man whom she has jsut met in search of a secret surf spot that nobody will tell her the exact location or even the name of. It's cool though, because she can just keep in constant face time communication with everybody back home in the States via the extensive and blazing fast cell networks that the Mexicans have built in the remote jungles. Once she gets there she is warmly welcomed to the secret surf spot by a few local surfers who gladly tell her all the intimate details of the lineup. Anybody who has ever surfed knows that locals are always gacious and welcoming to outsiders. After trading waves for a few hours the locals leave and corteously leave her belongings alone which she has left in plain sight on the beach. She then paddles approximately 10 strokes after a few dolphins that she sees when she comes upon the dead rotting corpse of a two ton whale floating just outside the line up. It's amzing that she didn't notice that before because it's not like something that large and that dead wouldn't emanate just a little putrid odor. Then the vengful great white shark looking to exact revenge on all mankind for trying to catch him (she gets close enough to being eaten a few times that she sees the hook in its mouth). Things just get more ridiculous the longer this abortion of a film go on. The CGI effects are terrible and fake looking. The final showdown with the murderous shark was laughable. I wished I could get my 90 minutes back as I felt ripped off. As you can tell, I hated it.

This is a good movie and Lively does a great job. The visuals are beautiful. If you've never seen a sliver foam-laced wave, here it is. (They got a little carried away with the CG algorythms in places.) There is one thing near the end that is exciting but doesn't really fit the overall feel of the film, but other than this, it's a great movie.
