If you think you know everyday people by what they look like...you'd better think again. Written and directed by Jim McKay (Girls Town), this intimate ensemble drama tells the interconnected stories of a group of racially diverse New Yorkers--cashiers, cooks, bosses, employees, parents, children, realists, dreamers--who rub elbows at a venerable Brooklyn diner whose owner has just revealed his plans to sell the place to make way for condominiums. Told over the course of one day, the film provides a rich slice-of-life portrait of people thrown together by pain and love who generate disturbing conflicts and surprising bonds that challenge the conventional assumptions about class and racial identity. The ensemble cast includes Stephen Axelrod, Bridget Barkan, Ron Butler and Reg E. Cathey.
