Description

Forced to work long hours, single-mother Maggie (Academy Award-nominee Melissa McCarthy) has no choice but to leave her 12-year-old son Oliver (newcomer Jaeden Lieberher) in the care of their new neighbor, Vincent (Academy Award-nominee Bill Murray). Together with a pregnant stripper named Daka (Academy Award-nominee Naomi Watts of THE IMPOSSIBLE), Vincent brings Oliver along on all the stops that make up his daily routine - the race track, the strip club, and the local dive bar. While Vincent hastens Oliver's introduction to manhood, Oliver begins to see something in Vincent that no one else is able to: a misunderstood man with a good heart. Also starring Chris O'Dowd (BRIDESMAIDS) and Academy Award-nominee Terrence Howard (HUSTLE and FLOW, IRON MAN).

Anyway, besides my judgement for this movies’ age rating, I sorta liked this film. Yeah, not really a lot of funny moments for me, but it was fun to watch.

Its heartwarming and funny. It's Bill Murray at his crotchety best and a fabulous supporting cast. And don't we all need a dose of that right now?

I loved it personally. To add to that, I only found 8 bad reviews out of 89. That should say something about the movie.

Not only was Murray great, and McCarthy very good, but the kid, Jaeden Lieberher, and Chris O’Dowd as the priest and Naomi Watts were all very good. I loved every minute of this movie. Even when he knew what was going to happen St. Vincent tugged at the heart of a gruff older man (me). Murray, and the voices of the wizened, imperfect ones, are voices we need to hear more often, with wrinkled, imperfect faces we need to see as well. Throughout my youth, it was easy to find the old and the wise in movies and on TV. They helped me learn how to age gracefully. Not any more. These lessons seem to be missing from media these days, unless one looks very, very hard. Savor this.

I rented this movie to watch with family. Murray was good as usual. The kid was kind of a dweeb. The movie got hokey at the end and was a bit unbelievable. All in all was watchable with a few laughs
