Description

This Sundance® award-winner follows the true story of Oscar Grant (Michael B. Jordan of TV’s Friday Night Lights), a 22-year-old Bay Area resident who wakes up on New Year’s Eve, 2008, and decides to get a head start on his resolutions: being a better son to his mother (Octavia Spencer of The Help), being a better partner to his girlfriend, and being a better father to T, their beautiful 4-year-old daughter. He starts out well, but as the day goes on, realizes that change will not come easy. As Oscar crosses paths with friends, family, and strangers, we see that there is much more to him than meets the eye. But it is his final encounter of the day with police officers at the Fruitvale BART station that will shake the Bay Area to its very core, causing the entire nation to witness the story and tragic death of Oscar Grant.

I really love this movie, but will it ever be in Spanish (Latin America)? Because the Spanish (Spain) version is sometimes hard to understand. But the story is very nice.

This story needed to be told and seen. And this is a landmark for its star and director. See it because this is an absorbing drama. See it because of the performances. See it because this young man’s fate, a fate seen too often in our country, seems to be remembered.

This movie is amazing. I could watch it a million times. This is a reminder of many innocent lives that were taken throughout the years. Great actors and storyline. 👍🏾

I am actually from Oakland, Ca and rode that Bart all the time through fruitvale station. These kids of things happen everyday and sadly you kind of expect something like this to happen whether it's police or other people. I remember in one year alone there were 106 murders and it's very sad. What is going on in our community?! I didn't know this person but I understand the struggle. I love that there was a movie written about this situation just so everyone can see it's not just the young people killing each other over nonsense but the people who are supposed to protect us from these kind of situations and basically get away with it because of who they are.

This movie was well made. When it was over I wished I had paid full price to rent it. It was good in its own way, and if Oscar is an angel, so be it. True, some of the narrative felt cliched, and the film suffers from preference as do we all. There are lots of steps at that station.
  • Sentimental remembrance
