Description

In a terrifying tale of the "American Dream" gone horribly wrong, residents of a picture-perfect Midwestern town begin to succumb to an uncontrollable urge for violence when a mysterious toxin in the water supply turns everyone exposed to it into mindless killers. Sheriff David Dutton (Timothy Olyphant); his pregnant wife, Judy (Radha Mitchell); Becca (Danielle Panabaker), an assistant at the medical center; and Russell (Joe Anderson), Dutton’s deputy and right-hand man, find themselves trapped in a once idyllic town they can no longer recognize. Unable to trust former neighbors and friends, deserted by the authorities and terrified of contracting the illness themselves, they are forced to band together in a nightmarish struggle for survival in this reinvention of the George Romero classic.

Same typical stuff you see in every horror film with very weak roles and story line.

The movie was really good for being what i would say a low budget movie. The ending makes me think there should be a second but nothing happened.
  • One of my all time favorites

This "remake" of the original movie directed by Romero, who also was one of the many producers of this (2010) film. As a horror movie, the 2010 movie has the traditional lull where nothing much takes place. The audience needs to relax, catch their breath, and prepare for more ultra-violence. What is he problem with this movie? The lull takes place shortly before the film ends. All the suspense is gone when the picture resumes. However, had the film ended right before the lull in action, it would have been a stronger, scarier thriller. A "?" ending can sometimes be as good as the "!" ending. The 1956 Allied Artists' film, INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS, directed by D. Siegel, originally had a "?" ending--it was unclear who would win, the pod people or the humans. The studio insisted upon the framing technique, whereby a prologue and an ending are tacked on to reassure viewers. The studio degraded Don Siegel's gem to a more traditional type of horror movie. Perhaps THE CRAZIES, however, might have been stronger with book-ends (with framing) around a shortened version. The prologue could show the sheriff and his blonde M.D. wife enjoying a picnic in the countryside. The last book-end would show a married zombie couple enjoying their picnic of fresh human flesh.
