Description

Dr. Steven Murphy (Colin Farrell) is a renowned cardiovascular surgeon presiding over a spotless household with his ophthalmologist wife Anna (Nicole Kidman) and their two exemplary children, 12-year-old Bob (Sunny Suljic) and 14-year-old Kim (Raffey Cassidy). Lurking at the margins of his idyllic suburban existence is Martin (Barry Keoghan), a fatherless teen who Steven has covertly taken under his wing. As Martin begins insinuating himself into the family’s life in ever-more unsettling displays, the full scope of his intent becomes menacingly clear when he confronts Steven with a long-forgotten transgression that will shatter the Murphy family’s domestic bliss. Lanthimos has crafted a sensational thriller brimming with unsettling humor and creeping dread, steeped in Greek tragedy, existential horror, Hitchcockian psychodrama, and riveting suspense. Darting confidently between genres to subvert our expectations at every turn, The Killing of a Sacred Deer firmly cements Lanthimos in the pantheon of world-class auteurs and marks him as a cinematic provocateur without precedent.

The writers and critics must of been high on something because the movie was horrible, the acting was terrible sounding dead and over with this movie and already giving up on it. The story has no plot and was just random actions with no progression with the ending having no theme. The closest entertaining part was the ending with them playing Russian roulette.

Amazing psychological horror piece. It does require some thought and a reasonable attention span, which is probably why some of the Instagram millennial kiddies left such bad reviews. Highly recommend.

I hate movies like this, propose a mystery, get you emotionally involved and then kill it with bad story telling. No answers, no moral questions, just some stupid crap that would never happen. Actors were great, story was insulting.

I’m amazed that movies like this get such high praise from critics. I guess I’m just not cool enough. Just so awful. Certain parts actually made me mad they were so absurd.
  • Actually quite good

If you can discern the difference between a “bad” movie, and a movie with an offbeat pace and style, you can appreciate this one. It’s not for everyone, which is a plus in my book.
  • Why the bad reviews?

This was a well made and well directed movie with performances that are purposefully emotionless to add to the disturbing tone. Mainstream audiences I guess shouldn’t be watching movies like this.
