  • A great, unsung modern noir classic!

I'd never even heard of this film before a friend of mine insisted we watch it. Written and directed by the Nelms brothers and featuring an all star cast with John Hawkes, Anthony Anderson, Octavia Spencer, Caity Lotz and scene-stealing performances by both Clifton Collins Jr. and Robert Forster, this modern noir follows a disgraced, drunk cop who's trying to find redemption by helping solve the murder of a young girl. Intense, suspenseful and at times really, really funny, SMALL TOWN CRIME is one of those gems you can't believe more people aren't talking about. After that friend showed it to me, I immediately bought the Blu-Ray on Amazon for my collection.

Overlaa, I liked this film a lot and it did have a definite indie feel. The only negative I'll add is the plot device with the blackmail was weak in it's design and execution.
  • What’s up with the reviews? Just AWFUL

Just more junk cranked out by Hollywood with a cast of stupid shallow characters, a ridiculous story line and of course that great substitute for any actual story substance — lots of guns, violence and blood. Oh and don’t forget a big stupid black tricked out Nova car that Captain Stringbean tools around in. Just a hateful waste of time and 99 cents.

I've seen john hawkes in many films and no matter the plot he carries out and excellant performance of representing this type of old school drama. No punt intented on it's a slow movie from one reviewer, you are just not updated or old enough to have had the pleasure of watching fims from the 70's. Anyone who likes a good suspense and i don't mean saw or the new mad max ect... the last one however, was awesome in it'sp. time. You like the old cop shows with the right number of bullits being fired, and a taste of every movie that was the original of all the messed up remixes,it's a treat!!You can not try to replicate eric clapton, muddy waters. the rolling stones or darrin mcgavin.@@ smiley emoji.

Worst acting and scripting I’ve seen this side of a lifetime original...and something off with camera and lighting too. How this got any favorable reviews is questionable.

John Hawkes anchors this character-driven slice of pulp. Offbeat but never quite parody, the film is engaging and original.

Story is fresh. Hawkes is incomperable. I'm also a big Robert Forster fan. His deadpan delivery is highly underrated. The rest of the cast meets that level also. Just an all around good watch.
