The 12th Man

This film was outstanding due to the incredible acting of the two lead actors, the sitting on the edge storyline, and the magnificent cinematography. The supporting cast was superb. I really enjoyed this film!

Wonderful film based on the true story of Jan Baalsrud as told in David Howarth’s book “We Die Alone”. Jan is the only survivor of a 12-man Norwegian saboteur group sent from Great Britain to Norway in 1943. The movie follows his escape from the Germans across fjords and mountains of Norway’s frozen north. Jan is the subject of a widespread search led by a local Gestapo commander who views capturing him as a sort of personal mission with his own reputation at stake. Beautiful landscape cinematography and musical score add to the moving story. Particularly touching are the efforts of local Norwegians to hide and assist Jan in spite of the great risks to their lives. A truly inspiring film about the human spirit and survival against the odds!

Now I’m going to preface this by saying that I do not like war films. I do not like films about soldiers. I do not like this genre of film. So when I went to watch this film I was not looking forward to it. If you are like me - I implore you to still watch this film. I was completely blown away in a way I don’t think I have been by any other film. I’m not a connoisseur of movie or films by any means but this film is true art. The story is unbelievable, the filming and landscapes and music are absolutely stunning, and the main actor is one of a kind. I honestly can’t believe I never saw this film advertised or available to see in the theater and that I just happened to stumble upon it on Hulu. Truly, everyone should see this film. I give it a 20/10.

if you think you have seen all the cliches about WWII, rent this and make sure you have something warm to drink during the next exhiliarting 2 hours of cinematic pleasure...

I loved this movie. Amazing story and it’s true story.

This has to be one of the best war story movies I've seen, right up there with the likes of band of brothers. I was moved to tears at many points during this movie as the struggle this man endured is nothing short of a living hell. It also highlights just how evil the Nazi's were and how we should try hard to never repeat this.

The film shows the strength of those unde the Nazi occupation. Why can't we make films like this in the USA instead of crappy Batman and avenger movies which glorifies violence which seems to contribute to the headline news of the day.

I am constantly amazed when a wonderful story emerges from the history of one of the worst times the world has ever seen. I am not into foreign films but this is one I couldn't turn off. The story keeps you intensely involved and intrigued. It is a must see if you like war movies, especially ones about unsung heros.

I stumbled upon this movie while browsing the iTunes store and I'm so glad I did. It's one of the best movies I've watched in a long time. And it puts another WWII-themed movie called Dunkirk to shame.
