Enjoy this experience. Like all biblical films you get to make the decisions on what it gives you. Enjoy the love between these 2100 year old human souls. The human condition is the heart but we've made it the mind. Although subject to interpretation Mary Magdalene always got a raw deal. Guess there wasn't a MeToo movement in those days. Like Varis said men decide these things. I also think the critics got this wrong, this is a spiritually moving film.

this is christ and the influence of an amazing women. this movie shows the passionate, humble and loving man that many worship. he is not a man of mega churches and wealth.mary possess the faith that all should emulate

Ignorant casting — No one studied — Culturally the acting is totally western. do producers, writers, and directors even read ?? they just twisted the contemporary, post-crusades, post-inquisition version of her story, and intentionally told it even more incorrectly . why waste money making this, without historic research and study ? Mary Magdelene was in her late 30s... and Jesus in his early 30s; not a near 50 year-old Phoenix. Mary Magdalene was significantly older, NOT younger, than Jesus; and she was an intelligent, inspiring leader and mentor to both the deciples and Jesus... not this modern-day, 20-something, weakling, love-stricken, depressed and angry kid casted in this movie... no gusto, no humor, depressing dialogue just call this movie a generic slow drama; and then it’s still just an ok flick

I know this movie has had mixed reviews and a bit of an issue getting released, but I’m so glad it is finally available. It was absolutely riveting. Great acting and cinematography. The pacing was almost meditative. A fresh new telling of a story familiar to most...rent this today!

Rotten Tomatoes got it very wrong with this movie; others reviewers say it: Great acting, excellent pacing for this type of movie; great cinematography. Joaquin Phoenix gives an excellent, believable performance (probably the best Jesus I have seen on film). This is not a particularly religious movie ( not for me, anyway). I think it was done more a historical vein with considerable artistic license. Again, worth watching...disregard RT.

I didn’t expect to love this film, but I did. It’s NOT at all what I’ve come to expect from this genre; usually in any attempt to capture a biblical story on film, egos and spiritless acting get in the way and corrupt the spirit of the thing.

 Thankfully, this film is something else entirely. It nourished my spirit in a way that felt deeply authentic. First, it is a thing of beauty — in the cinematography, music, and contemplative tone. The most striking aspect for me, though, is how restorative it felt. Mary Magdelene comes across as a real human being of deep spirit and understanding - none of the cheesy stuff you might fear is coming. There is something about seeing a woman who was misrepresented, slandered, and gossiped about for 1200 years finally rise up back out of the the shadows into the light. Mary Magdelene is a real human being in this film, not a silenced accesory decorating the sides of the story. It felt so very good to see her as she appears in the gospels, freed from the political motivations that silenced her from the 8th century onward. I felt transfixed watching this. I cried a lot and felt a deep peace inside the integrity that bubbles through this film. That said, I'm not sure what this film would be like for most men, as many of the men I know would have a hard time relating to Mary's experiences.
