Description

A powerful and thought-provoking true story, “Just Mercy” follows young lawyer Bryan Stevenson (Jordan) and his history-making battle for justice. After graduating from Harvard, Bryan had his pick of lucrative jobs. Instead, he heads to Alabama to defend those wrongly condemned or who were not afforded proper representation, with the support of local advocate Eva Ansley (Larson). One of his first, and most incendiary, cases is that of Walter McMillian (Foxx), who, in 1987, was sentenced to die for the notorious murder of an 18-year-old girl, despite a preponderance of evidence proving his innocence and the fact that the only testimony against him came from a criminal with a motive to lie. In the years that follow, Bryan becomes embroiled in a labyrinth of legal and political maneuverings and overt and unabashed racism as he fights for Walter, and others like him, with the odds—and the system—stacked against them.

I love this movie so much, it lightens up my heart. But it also brings my heart down. It’s so sad how all these black people are getting treated. They should be treated better. Overall, the movie is a good lesson.

Having read both the book and watched the movie I was crying from time to time. The outlook on the court of law is perfect. I believe in a nation that’s united by equality and a free nation that stands for justice. We are not a nation divided by our differences we are a nation united by what makes us special. The very thing that makes you different is what makes you special.

This movie made me cry a couple times, for ANYONE to be charged with a crime that they’re innocent of is wrong. When the Africans sold their people to America we could’ve turned them away but the price was good and we needed the labor. It didn’t take long to realize that people, no matter what color, should not be property. That being said, we live in completely different era now. We all have the same opportunities in America! It’s 2020 folks! If you want it, go earn it! This movie doesn’t represent the current times. Stop being race shamed. Stop being bullies. Just stop. Mercy.

This movie has been made a hundred times. Black man unjustly imprisoned because racism and blah blah blah. Of course he dindu nuffin’!! It’s society and the white man’s fault. Don’t waste your time unless you feel the need to re-up on your white guilt.
  • A story that needs to be told and heard

This movie made me understand & sympathize with the BLM movement. (Not the violence and the segregation and the holier than thou vibe) Hit the fact that this man sat on Death Row because another con pointed him out (so that he could avoid going to death row). That right there should have made the sherif and the DA wonder if the story and corroboration was even genuine. A white con, coming forward, saying he saw a black con commit a heinous murder, and describing it (in detail) so that he could get a lesser sentence.... This in itself should just not be allowed in our justice system. One con telling on another con for a reward. One of three things is definitely going to happen. 1. The con is going to lie and make up parts of the story just so he can get a lesser sentence 2. The con isn’t going to lie and the COs are going to beat him for not telling the truth and getting another black man executed 3. The con is going to lie at first, until the black con figures out what happened, and the black con is going to seek out a mistrial This movie had great actors and was just well done. Hope it can win some awards this year!

As a white guy from Holland, I have never experienced racism, nor did I really know what it was. I think this movie should be watched by everyone, to understand what inequality is. Thanks iTunes to have this movie available for free. Otherwise I probably wouldn’t have seen this movie, which can really make a difference in the way you look at racism, and hopefully will make everyone understand racism and help to ban it.
