Description

After a meteorite lands in the front yard of their farm, Nathan Gardner (Nicolas Cage) and his family find themselves battling a mutant extraterrestrial organism as it infects their minds and bodies, transforming their quiet rural life into a living nightmare. Based on the classic H.P. Lovecraft short story, Color Out of Space is “gorgeous, vibrant and terrifying” (Jonathan Barkan, Dread Central).

  • Excellent Lovecraft adaptation

I was pleasantly surprised by this adaptation of Lovecraft’s short story of the same name. I felt this the most authentic adaptation to date, surpassing 89’s “The Curse” as well as “Annihilation” (the Southern reach trilogy) by way of Vandemeer. The inclusion of nods to both the Dunwich Horror and Reanimator were well placed Easter eggs. Highly recommend to any Lovecraft enthusiasts or explorative indie horror fans.

Was gross instead of psychologically frightening. I can’t imagine in 2019-2020 going for shock over unbearable tension after all the crappy Lovecraft adaptations that are C movies at best. It’s a graveyard of wasted source materials at this point. Good cast and cinematography saves it from a 1 star for me.

If you love H.P. Lovecraft this movie is for you. If you liked the movie Annihilation, this movie is for you. It’s abstract, colorful, lingering, and thought provoking...everything Lovecraft is known for. If you like average horror or science fiction then you won’t like this movie. It’s a slow burn that will just leave you confused and angry if you don’t already enjoy this type of niche genre (hence the negative reviews).

I wouldn’t classify this as horror or science fiction. The movie quickly turns grotesque with no real story line. The script is awful and acting is even worse.
  • Such a fun horror

Watched it for as long as I could and then fast forwarded. The acting was good but the story and editing was greatly lacking and reminiscent of an age when the viewers were not as sophisticated as they are today. As it often is with the written version, the 1927 novella by Howard Lovecraft was much more entertaining.
  • Really bad

If you really want to see it, please find the cheapest rental possible and then find as many other suckers as you can to watch it with you so that your supporting the production of garbage as little as possible. This movie isn’t worth the film they recorded it on.

The only thing wrong with the film is Nicolas Cage. He’s just miscast, all wrong 4 the part. Other than that the film is perfect horror/scifi. If Stuart Gordon & HP Lovecraft actually met & worked 2gether this would b the result! The film is pure Lovecraft from the first frame; the trees in the woods already looking otherworldly drawing us in... all the way thru. Heavy on the 80’s throwback 2 body horror & special fx reminiscent of David Cronenberg & John Carpenter’s The Thing. I fully enjoyed it with a dropped jaw thru-out. Quite the spectacle. There’s a lot 2 feast your eyes on here. Beautifully shot & if u’re a fan of good ole gory scifi/horror u’ll definitely get your fix here. Cage was actually best when Nathan was in his “nothing wrong here” mode & worst when he was in rage Cage mode which looked 2 much like a parody. If u can ignore Nic Cage when he’s annoying, the rest of the film is so worth it.
