Description

David Bowie is one of the most seminal legends in music history; but who was the man behind the many faces? In 1971, a 24-year-old fledgling David Bowie (Johnny Flynn) is sent to America to promote his newest record, The Man Who Sold the World. Leaving behind his pregnant wife Angie (Jena Malone), Bowie and his band embark on a makeshift coast-to-coast promotional tour with struggling Mercury Records publicist Rob Oberman (Marc Maron). Stateside, Bowie is quickly met with an audience that's not yet ready for him. During the tumultuous journey, Bowie slowly begins to realize a need to reinvent himself in order to truly become himself; it's with that realization that his iconic, celestial alter-ego Ziggy Stardust is born. Anchored by two stellar performances from Flynn and Maron, Stardust offers an intimate glimpse into the moments that inspired the creation of Bowie's first and most memorable alter-ego, illuminating the turning point that cemented his legacy as one of the world's greatest cultural icons.

Even though stardust isn’t great and disrespectful and at points kinda awkward, it is still pretty decent with acceptable performances from Marc Maron and Johnny Flynn, it’s also really well shot. If you regard this as a completely fictional film, it is pretty good, it even says at the beginning that some of it is fictional. If you are a huge Bowie fan, I do not recommend this tbh. If you’re expecting a biopic similar to what was done for Queen or Elton John you will be sorely disappointed. I’ve long been a fan of Bowie, especially the the Ziggy Stardust years, so I was pretty excited about this movie. It was one of the worst movies of the year, and a very sad portrayal of Bowie. Very dull and unrewarding hot mess of a movie. Hopefully one day someone will make a movie that tells the story properly. This one falls flat on it’s face.

Keep your money or buy a real Bowie album-- do anything but pay for your time to be wasted with this scam of a bipoic.

Actor doesn’t even look or sound like Bowie. Have they not seen other biopics like Rocketman and how good casting was?🤦🏻‍♂️

No Bowie songs in entire movie. Obviously not an actual David Bowie movie or it would have been called Ziggy Stardust.

Really interesting, untold chapter from David Bowie’s life. Johnny Flynn doesn’t look like him, but his singing is actually impressive. Marc Maron is great as always.
