Description

John Wright was a hometown hero – the powerful star of his high school wrestling team and a promising Olympian. He could have had it all... but one bad decision destroyed his dreams and forced him to leave under a cloud of scandal that has haunted him ever since. Twenty years later, John returns to his small town after his mother's death, hoping to save his family home from foreclosure. His icy reception proves that his former friends and neighbors still haven't forgiven him for letting them down. Unexpectedly, John gets the opportunity to turn everything around– by coaching his high school's wrestling team. There he meets Michael, a talented underdog with a troubled home life who faces a vicious opponent out to destroy him both on and off the mat. Can John become the leader the team and Michael needs, or will he lose himself to the dark demons of his past? The Last Champion is an inspirational family sports drama that will have you believing in second chances. Beautifully photographed in the Pacific Northwest, it's a story about faith, loss and redemption starring Cole Hauser (Yellowstone), Hallie Todd (Lizzie McGuire), Randall Batinkoff (X-Men: First Class), and Peter Onorati (This is Us). The film is directed, produced, and co-written by actor Glenn Withrow (The Outsiders).

I've never written a review of a movie before but this one is too good to not recommend. I felt like the movie had elements of Rocky and It's a Wonderful Life. Really beautifully told themes of redemption, under dog, forgiveness, fallibility, and needing God (and our neighbors) to help us fight back when life brings us down. Thank you for making this movie. And, I loved that there were no huge stars. I didn't recognize any of the actors and somehow that made this movie more authentic and true to the themes.

Really enjoyed the movie! Don’t get to see many movies about wrestling and I was turned on to this movie from my love of Cole Hauser’s performance in Yellowstone and I’ll happily be supporting his work going forward. Outstanding performance! Feel good movie much needed.

Never should have been a movie at the theater. Nothing special about it. Typical religious feeling, the Christian town pulling together to help a man and another family. Just wait for it to be free.

Acting was great, plot was great, scenery was beautiful. Wrestled for 22 years and this struck a cord. No other sport can compete with the family it creates. Still super close to the brothers and even fathers (coaches) I gained from wrestling. Movie does a great job portraying tbis

States off slow but for the right reasons with plot and character development, then accelerates into rousing crowd pleaser. Manages to avoid a lot of hokiness and retain a gritty compassion.

I still kind of liked it but it didn’t have much wrestling in it. It’s kind of like Hallmark Channel meets Karate kid. A nice movie, not bad, not great. Worth a rent.
