Description

An authentic new voice has been revealed. If you’ve never heard of Angela Alvarez that’s because the 93 year old Cuban-American has just had her lifetime’s work of songs discovered. Fellow Cuban-American and refugee, actor ANDY GARCIA narrates (and plays in her band!) the momentous and inspiring story of Angela’s flight from Cuba in the 1960’s and subsequent ‘ordinary’ life as wife, mother and working woman who hid her childhood ambition to be a singer and songwriter. Only when her Grandson, Carlos Alvarez, now a successful composer in Hollywood, asked about the ‘traditional’ Cuban folk songs she had been singing to generations of the family, did he unearth a catalogue of original songs, charting her traumatic life. Now with the music recorded by world renowned Cuban musicians from the Buena Vista Social Club and Grammy award winners, 91 year old Angela Alvarez is ready to start her career.

Well Carlos… I had the rare opportunity to watch you discover your power as a storyteller, musician, conductor, composer and all around Major League Grandson. Angela is the shiny example of the human spirit and it is never to late to pursue ones dreams. I am honored to have been in the audience that night she performed in Hollywood and as a storyteller myself all I can say is OSCAR time baby! Demian

I loved this movie! The movie tells the story of Miss Angela’s journey from Cuba to the United States and all the trials and tribulations that came along with that until the culmination of Miss Angela’s dream at the age of 91 on a stage in Hollywood. The movie captures you from the beginning and never lets you go. The stories are moving and the music is fantastic. I would highly recommend!!

The movie is so special! What an incredible story of Miss Angela and her life in Cuba, her dreams as a young girl to become a singer and so much more. It explains the invasion of Fidel Castro into Cuba and the heart wrenching story of sending her children to the United States alone. Her journey at 94 years old to finally become a singer is absolutely breathtaking! This documentary is so awesome!!!!
