A rare film that hits all the beats— funny, action-packed, heartwarming and moving. The best film of 2021.

Mildly entertaining but overall dumb. A: No one wants to watch a video game and pretend AI is somehow a real person. B: First person shooter games are rad, well because they’re fun. Nice try on some digital utopia. It’s just another clue to the future of what mega companies want…YOU, sunk into some digital jail instead of living a real life.

Nobody has watched this with a more critical eye then I had. Granted that I waited for it’s release on Disney+, granted this is universally one of Ryan Reynolds’s worst films, and granted there is little if not any of the alleged political correctness in the film alleged by other reviewers. I think it had a lot of room for improvement, unlike Ready Player One which was well planned out and didn’t have a corny comment every other second, mostly in the writing of the whole plot (honestly I couldn’t even figure it out even after watching it twice). The casting was full of horrible, unemotional, inexperienced actors (with the exception of Mr. Reynolds and Chris Pines 2 second cameo). The Avenger and Star Wars references while aptly timed , well let’s face it, are at this point overused by Disney and deflated what was left of my already LOW expectations for this film. It could’ve had a better story, and the “villain” could’ve been written better probably by an amateur (I was gritting my teeth 30 seconds into my first viewing at the poorly written lines and role). It’s extremely unlikely that I’ll purchase this for my iTunes collection much less recommend this film to someone else.
