Description

The most triumphant sports-drama franchise in history returns with a new look in "Rocky IV: Rocky vs. Drago." Director, writer and star Sylvester Stallone masterfully reshapes "Rocky IV" in this ultimate director’s cut, including never-before-seen footage. With more intense fight scenes, world heavyweight champion Rocky Balboa (Stallone) defends his title once again, this time against Drago (Dolph Lundgren), a six-foot-four, 261-pound fighter who has the backing of the Soviet Union.

A big fan of the original but this took it to another level. Editing the old and adding the new seemed to really focus the emotions and story of the film to give us a new classic. Thanks Sly

This movie felt like a documentary or a behind the scene look of the movie. Audio was not good too. Original cut was perfect. This movie is only good if you saw the original.
  • Not Really “Ultimate”

Rocky IV is one of those movies from my childhood that still resonates today. This directors cut has some added scenes that, quite honestly, deserved to be cut in the first place. Cheesy and irrelevant that didn’t add anything special and actually took away from my memories of this picture. If you are looking for some great added scenes and/or reminisce over a good old Cold War movie, I would look elsewhere.
  • This is the perfect version of this film

Congrats to Sly for pulling it off. I never thought a good film could be made out of Rocky 4 but he did it.

Revisiting this classic was a bold experiment. It was well worth it. This is a much more intimate and nuanced version of the film. It pulled me in more. All of the small moments, looks, glances, reactions and pauses made for a more emotional experience. I really enjoyed this new look at Rocky IV.

With his new edit you see why scenes are cut out of a film to make it work. Stallone put so many crap shots/takes/and scenes that should have remained on the cutting room floor because it's either bad writing, a bad take, or just downright bad acting. All of the above! In this edit you see the actor who played Appolo's trainer really is not a versatile, able, actor because Stallone put back scenes of just bad acting. Talia Shire's bad takes are in there too. Sure she has more screen time but it's all a fascinnating lesson on how films are improved and salvaged through editing - which this cut seems to return to what was possibly one of the first drafts of the initial cuts. Like Coppola, Stallone should not touch his old movies. This was so bad and shockingly amateur. The cringe turned to boredom and eventual sadness. I love Stallone but this actually, I would say, is his first awful film. And had he started with the display of this kind of ability we wouldn't be talking about him today.

Stallone isn’t known for his editing and this is no exception. While the ideas that he wanted to bring out more were there it’s one of those “you should have thought of that when you started” because they feel tacked on. The living in America scene is better, Apollo’s funeral should have been in the original and a lot of missing Drago moments were awesome. Original is still better but there is enough there to watch at least once if you’re a fan.
  • Excellent Recut! 🔥

As a boxing fan, this version is more realistic, less fantasy. Stallone cut the fat in the right places… This is the Rocky IV we all needed 🥊
  • Somewhat disappointing..

First thoughts were, cool! There’s a ‘director’s’ cut! If I’d known how terrible the changes were, wouldn’t have purchased this in the first place. Should have extended the cut and not alter it by cutting out a lot of original content..
