Description

Triumphant over his greatest challenge with Russian boxer/killer Drago, Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) is about to face an even bigger challenge-himself! Back home from Russia, people begin to note a slurring of his diction...which worsens. And they begin to notice that the things Rocky says are "dumber." Rocky suffered brain damage from his bout with the murderous Drago. To make matters even worse, Rocky is left broke by mismanagement of his fortune. Despite his desire to get into the ring, Rocky must retire and find a means of supporting his wife, Adrian (Talia Shire), and their son, Rocky Jr. (Sage Stallone). Economics force the family back to the seedy Philadelphia neighborhood they thought they had left forever. But Rocky has new hope for a promising young boxer-Tommy Gunn (Tommy Morrison).

This movie is pretty great. I never even saw the other Rocky movies yet, but I caught this one on cable and I've been glued to the tv.

I love Rocky V I just saw Rocky V and I enjoyed it as much as I did when I first saw it in 1990. In fact I considered Rocky V the perfect ending for the Rocky saga. The next chapter, Rocky Balboa, was ok, but for me it was mostly nostalgia and it didn’t generate any emotions in me. But Rocky V… Wow! That movie hit all my emotions. Rocky V broke the formula. Our hero loses all his money and has to go back to the neighborhood. Ashamed and humiliated. Of course he is traumatized! Doctors told he he had brain damage and he couldn’t fight his way out of this problem. He was on denial and he wanted to get it all back. So when Tommy Gun shows up, he sees an opportunity. An opportunity that was stolen by the Duke. At the end of the movie, Rocky didn’t get what he wanted. He failed. It is rare to see an American movie where the hero fails. Rocky didn’t get what he wanted, he got what he needed. Personal respect. By beating Tommy Gun on that amazing street fight Rocky became again the people’s champion. Here is where Rocky V makes a perfect loop with the first Rocky movie. In that film it is established that Rocky’s motivation to fight Apollo is not money or to be the champion of the world. He just wanted to go the distance with Creed to prove to himself the he wasn’t another bump from the neighborhood. It is a personal victory. In fact, when the fight ends Rocky tells Apollo he doesn’t need a rematch. In Rocky V Adrian establishes that the difference between Rocky and Tommy is that Rocky always fought with his heart. Money and the championship were secondary. Passion drove Rocky through his carrier. But Tommy was hungry for money, the title and glamour. The Duke said it perfect: “Hey Rock, you have more class than him!” This are the main reasons why I love Rocky V.

I don't think they should've made Rocky five and 1990 I think they should've made it in 1988 because the sound track was horrible but the movie was okay it's good to enjoy but I thought Rocky was supposed to die in this one and a street fight with Tommy gunn
  • Not the best

My least favorite one in the series. But i do think the big street fight is cool. You gotta admit that. Did you know after Rocky got his beating from tommy he was supposed to die thank goodness they changed that. Find Rocky saga;Going the distance there are a lot of things you wouldn't expect to see. It is about all the Rocky movies.

The reason I'm giving it 4 stars and not 3 is because it starts off with a good intro from Rocky IV and ends with a nice ending. Basically the ending is the fight.
  • Second worse Rocky film... and it still deserves 5 stars

It may not be the best of the series or even one of the best, but it's definitely worth watching. I liked how Rocky becomes a manager and the whole family theme. It's different but still works.
