Description

Clock back into the Clerks universe for writer-director Kevin Smith’s third entry of his iconic comedy series. Once again behind the counter of Quick Stop, Dante (Brian O’Halloran) and Randal (Jeff Anderson) are still hanging out with Jay and Silent Bob (Jason Mewes, Kevin Smith), handling quirky customers, and sneaking off for rooftop hockey. But after Randal has a heart attack, he’s determined to make something of his slacker life — by shooting a movie about it! Featuring Rosario Dawson, a host of celebrity cameos, and Smith’s signature humor, Clerks III is a hilarious and nostalgic capstone to the Clerks legacy – nearly thirty years in the making.

The send off end to the trilogy was surprisingly good. For a b grand series this was the best script. The aging of the cast and subsequent demise more me feel really old which i am 😂

the original clerks is one of my all-time faves. i wanted to like clerks II but it was pretty bad. it tried too hard to be shocking and the script was lazy. i wanted to like this new one but it feels forced. i hate the new jesus freak character they introduced in the last one and used in this one (tho it was hysterical to see him dressed as robert smith of the band, the cure). but overall, he's awful. and i HATE how smith has absolutely ruined the silent bob character with all the mugging and overacting. it's cringe-worthy. he had the perfect deadpan character and just ruined him. unbelievable. the one redeeming thing about clerks III is how at one point, they used a lot of the old actors from the original movie, so it was kind of neat to see how they aged and all that. if you're a die hard, maybe rent it if it's cheap enough. otherwise, pass. i hate saying that but they really should've stopped with the original. these other 2 sequels stink in comparison. smith lost his mojo and magic. ALSO: in the 'extras' section, the version with the audio commentary is completely scrambled (visually). however, the 2 other 'extras' (documentary and other thing) play fine. the movie, itself, plays fine, aswell. they need to fix the commentary version, however.

As with the other movies in Kevin Smith's "ViewAskewniverse", it has a lot of subtle (and some not so subtle) references to other movies and characters. Also, because I was widowed in 2006, parts of this movie REALLY hit me in the feels (which is pretty rare for any movie, let alone a comedy). My opinion is that this truly wraps up the Clerks movies, and puts an exclamation point on it all. Very well done, Kevin, very well done!

Almost as bad a He-Man. Almost.
  • I loved Clerks 1 & 2. Don’t watch the 3rd movie!

I suffered the first 40 minutes watching this movie knowing it wasn’t going to get any better. I tried to take a nap with this movie on and it was too depressing to hear in the background. I shut the movie off because watching paint dry would be more entertaining. I wasted $15 on this movie that should have never been made. It was one last cash grab before all the actors join AARP.

Sure the jokes are old. But they still make me laugh. This may be the most emotionally mature film Kevin Smith ever made. While past films had reality only sprinkled into them such as Jay’s criminal mischief, or “clerks.” containing every silly moment cranked up to 11 of the weird crap customers ask or do, this one took a solemn note on the sad realities of getting older as well as took a snarky swipe at almost every last film he ever made. Even a tagline from the clerks cartoon where most won’t get the one-liner unless you watched the cartoon. Well played, Smith. Maybe some have felt alienated by the basic humor over the years where d!ck and poop jokes no longer fly. But I grew up with this movie defining the jobs I had in high school. It was the first screenplay I ever read. It is one of the few movies I will skip all spoilers on, including the previews, just to remain completely surprised by every little detail. If details are your thing this will be the best movie to switch the phone off and lock it in another room because nearly every scene has a nod to the vast franchise of the View Askew-niverse. This movie could have stuffed more in but he really seemed to try to avoid pulling the viewer into focusing on finding hidden content where’s Waldo-style so the viewer could take in the story. This movie made me feel sad for a few reasons that will become apparent once you make it to the end as it is clearly the end of a series of films that made me look forward to going to see it in theaters with a group or at home with friends. Lisa Ann Spoonauer was definitely missed and I know she is irreplaceable in the story. I also believe there were elements of the film paying homage to the unofficial Clerks Documentary. I think wherever your views sit on whether Kevin Smith is a genius or a hack, you may enjoy what he made. And like Dogma starts out, just don’t take it all so serious.
