A fabulous documentary. It's full of information about an artist I've always admired, including interviews with many of his contemporaries. And it's deeper than just a portrait of Dave Stevens. It's a very revealing look at what compels an artist to get up every morning and attack the blank page. I found it interesting and poignant, and the artwork that's shown (plenty of that) was spectacular.

How does one achieve greatness and not realize it? If I remove this, or add that… it (could be) perfect. Experience this up close and personal account as told by those who knew him well. His brand of genius and the story behind it, are well worth the watch. 5 stars… for the creator in all of us.

Wow. This documentary is a portrait of the artist as a human being, foibles and all. But it’s also an example of what it means to pour soul into your work. Stevens’s art is gorgeous, his life as told by those who knew him best is a compelling glimpse into some of the pinnacles of 20th century entertainment and pop culture. Really enjoyable, even from an “outsider” perspective. Made me want to create!
