Description

Eleven-year-old New York City public school kids journey into the world of ballroom dancing and reveal pieces of themselves and their world along the way. Told from their candid, sometimes hilarious perspectives, these kids are transformed, from reluctant participants to determined competitors, from typical urban kids to "ladies and gentlemen," on their way to try to compete in the final citywide competition. Providing unique insight into the incredible cultural diversity that is New York City, this film profiles several kids from three schools (out of 60) at this dynamic age, when becoming that "cool" teenager vies for position with familiar innocence, while they learn the merengue, rumba, tango, the foxtrot and swing.

Ever since I came across this movie, I can't forget it. I was about these kids' age, if not a little older, and they made me want to dance! I even used a little of some of their dances for my quinceanera! Even now as a college student, I can't get over how insanely talented these kids are, and how much I wish they would have had a program like this in my school growing up. I would love to see more of this in the kids growing up nowadays. It's a must watch for parents with troubled kids, mostly to give them hope that they can better themselves when they find a passion for something. :)

So when i was in fifth grade my teacher forced the whole class to watch this movie. At first i really did not want to watch some documentry and i would always complain, but it turned out to be an amazing movie. And now, six years later its still one of my most favorite movies to watch. I highly recomend this for kids, teens, and adults! :)

I actually participated in this program. I had a fun teacher Ms. Ellen who taught me & my class the tango, the rumba, the foxtrot, and many other dances. I still remember them today. It was a fun experience and so is this documentary.

The movie is absolutely awesome! The kids-my new best friends-made the movie so touching and quirky. I don't know what to say if you don't like this movie other than that you don't like real people and real events.

I saw this at a tiny theater in the middle of nowhere but it made everyone in the theater laugh and applaud. Not only a great documentary but well shot and full of feeling.
