Description

From visionary writer/director Guillermo del Toro (director of Blade II, The Devil's Backbone) comes Hellboy, a supernatural action adventure based on Mike Mignola's popular Dark Horse Comics series of the same name. Born in the flames of hell and brought to Earth as an infant to perpetrate evil, Hellboy (Ron Perlman) was rescued from sinister forces by the benevolent Dr. Broom (John Hurt), who raised him to be a hero. In Dr. Broom's secret Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense, Hellboy creates an unlikely family consisting of the telepathic "Mer-Man" Abe Sapien (Doug Jones) and Liz Sherman (Selma Blair), the woman he loves who can control fire. Hidden from the very society that they protect, they stand as the key line of defense against an evil madman who seeks to reclaim Hellboy to the dark side and use his powers to destroy mankind.

Love Perlman, love Blair, love Del Toro. The visuals and character work in this film are just fantastic. I personally think the sequel is even better in both regards, but this is such a solid super hero movie that doesn’t feel like any other super hero movie and I appreciate that. It’s truly auteur blockbuster entertainment.

I love This movie but it’s missing subtitles for when the dead guy hellboy finds in the cemetery speaks in a different language like in the movie before.

Hellboy is the best film that Guillermo del Toro has ever directed. Hellboy is a lot of fun and Hellboy has a personality and a sense of humor to light up the movie's run time. All of the scenes with Ron Pearlman as Hellboy are what superhero's alter ago's are all about.

The more often you watch this the less intriguing it becomes. The characters are dumb and make dumb choices just to make a story. The entire movie will have you saying, “who would do this!?”

Great movie enjoyed the sets, acting and writing. Wild ride with enough plot to make it interesting but didn’t drag. Loved it - recommend to all that love a good action adventure tale - plan to see Hellboy II as well.

Okay, so, yes, I expected to hate this movie. But I actually quite enjoyed it, and Perlman is awesome as Hellboy. The only problem with the movie is that it's not very high in the re-watching department. It's great to see once, but it's not one I would really consider a buyable movie. That doesn't mean it's bad, just that, now that I have seen it once, it's not one I intend to revisit.
