Being from Seattle, I remember when Singles came out and the cry of many elitist "grungies" to the unauthenticness of the movie. However, I thought it was a fantastic movie which even though was Hollywood's perception of the Seattle phenomena, still had a lot of the quarks and feel of the times nailed down. It also offered a slice of Seattle's less serious side of the grunge scene - a nice comic relief from the often drabness of a fad about to spoil. Notice I used the word spoiled and not faded: Seattle has an incredible knack for reinventing it's self in spite of being watered down by the media though many here take themselves and their scene WAY too seriously. Singles perfectly portraits not only that uniqueness then but the attitudes now.

This is, by far, one of the best movies ever! I'm quite surprised at all the mention of Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains, yet no one mentions Chris Cornell??? There are some GREAT one-liners in this movie. If I were going to be stuck on a deserted island with one CD and a lifetime supply of batteries, this, hands down, is the one I'm taking with me! This is THE best soundtrack EVER...and one of the best CDs ever in general!! Guess I'm showing my age here!!!
  • Mediocre plot, amazing soundtrack.

The plot of this movie is somewhat dull. It isn't that differant then most romantic comedys. The music however, made the movie. Apperances from Pearl Jam and Alice In Chains are what made the movie popular. If you want a light romantic comedy/drama watch this, but if you really want something about the grunge movement get Hype!.

I wish iTunes let me buy it instead of renting it. If your obsessed with the 90's like me and you love Grunge and the Seattle Scene then you should get this movie.

The film is okay. The acting seems forced in the first hour or so, and the writing is one point less than what I'd give some of the "worse" films on iTunes. Overall, you may like this film, and some may not. I fall in the middle. It's not a film I'd watch twice. Rent it for the sake of seeing it.
