Description

Academy Award and Golden Globe-winner and Emmy-nominee Goldie Hawn ("The First Wives Club," "Private Benjamin") stars in this nostalgic romantic comedy as a demure World War II housewife whose life is enriched by her job at a homefront factory. There she gains an inspirational buddy (Academy Award, Emmy and Golden Globe-winner Christine Lahti - TV's "Jack & Bobby," TV's "Chicago Hope ," nominated for this role) and reluctantly enters a hot new romance (played by real-life paramour Emmy and Golden Globe-nominee Kurt Russell -- "Vanilla Sky," "Executive Decision"). This is "Goldie Hawn's best role since 'Private Benjamin,'" declares The New York Times, while People Magazine calls this "American movie-making at its lyrical, buoyant best.

  • A great effort from Hawn, Russell, and director Demme.

Three years before their 1987 smash-hit comedy "Overboard", Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell joined director Jonathan Demme ("The Silence of the Lambs") for the period drama, "Swing Shift". The movie is a quiet, first-rate film which has Hawn at a factory along with lots of other women while their husbands are off fighting WWII. In the midst of everything, Hawn would have never thought that she would fall for fellow co-worker/jazz player Russell. "Swing Shift" has a great supporting cast, including Christine Lahti (in an Academy Award-nominated performance), Ed Harris, Fred Ward, and Holly Hunter in one of her early film roles. Academy Award-winning songstress Carly Simon performed the song "Someone Waits For You" specifically for the movie, which sounded so amazing that I actually bought the song here on iTunes! There is a high probability that I will definitely buy "Swing Shift" on iTunes. And for anyone who hasn't seen the movie, then you're in for a real treat!
