I can promise you will regret whatever time and energy is invested in this movie. It is poorly conceived and executed.

Wild, disorganized, hilarious, unexpected. I can only recommend it to people whose taste I know well, and even then, I can't be sure. Here's a test: If you thought the new Blade Runner was unimaginative -- this may be for you. If you loved Baby Driver -- this may be for you (although it's nothing like Baby Driver). Crazy and fun. Don't try to figure it out. Just let it happen and enjoy each scene on its own. It (kind of) comes together by the end.

This movie… I don't know good films, I know what I like. I like weird and this movie rocked my weird world. I never like what the reviewers do, unless it's something obvious like "Breathless" . But someone, just someone has to write and say, man, The Rock, what an inspired comic performance. Good job, buddy.
  • Richard Kelly is genius.

By my absolute favorite director, this film not only plays on actual theory of space-time travel, but also closely mirrors themes of his older films. Donnie Darko being the most prominent example I know of. Left eyes, water and metal, a prophet whose world is ending. It's the same story in another setting, the music is just as awe-inspiring and ushers the floaty, seemingly in-cohesive scenes to mesh right on together. Everyone should watch them until they understand, it's a fantastic mind-trip and not to mention, inspiring philosophy. Not only because of the entangling plot lines, but because they represent an aspect of the mind of the artist, which frankly sees beyond many.

So this movie did not do that great and it seems that is because most people are confused by it. Granted that there are a lot of characters and a myriad of sub-plots within the main plot but you don't even have to finish the movie to understand the story. Really, its not that difficult. It's all about time travel and paradox's. I guess that is just beyond some people. I think this was a great movie and probably a lot of fun to make. It was more of an expose into the film makers imagination than any intent to make something coherent. It really wasn't that hard to follow, I think most people were just frustrated that there were so many stories going on at once. The visuals are fun, the climax was great and in the end I was really hoping for the end of the world, but I was still happy with what I got. Get over the hyper-criticism and the desire to see only films that make sense to you. This was made for the film maker and those who have an imagination.
  • How dumb?

How dumb do you have to be to not see the social commentary in this film? I guess you would have to be as dumb as the characters portrayed in it. The most baffling complaint is that the film is incoherent. Actually the story is fairly linear, traditional and in no way hard to follow. South Land Tales rules!!!
