Description

All his life, people have told Rudy he's not good enough, not smart enough, not big enough. But nothing can stop his impossible dream of playing football for Notre Dame. From the time he's a young boy, Rudy (Sean Astin) is determined to join the Fighting Irish. But his blue collar family only laughs at his ambitions - they know Rudy will follow his father and brothers to the local steel mill. And, for four long years after high school, he does just that. But some dreams won't die, as Rudy proves when he goes to heroic, occasionally hilarious, lengths to win admission to Notre Dame. Once there, he becomes a walk-on player, serving as little more than a human tackling dummy against the starting players. Bloodied but unbeaten, Rudy wins the respect of legendary coach Ara Parseghian and the other Irish players, who give him one shot at gridiron glory. An incredible true story from the creators of Hoosiers, Rudy is an unforgettable testament to the power of dreams and the triumph of the common man.

Rudy is truly one of the greatest sports films of all time. The story is very motivational and must-see for anyone looking for some drive to overcome tough odds and great adversity. The music score is iconic, with many of the songs instantly recognizable. Many goosebump moments exist in this film, made even more intense if you have any affinity for Notre Dame or college football. Great for all ages.
  • A five cent story in a ten dollar wrapper

The ending is a foregone conclusion and only halfway fulfilling. Football fans might love this, buy if you take the story on its own merits, there is not much of a story to tell: a guy wants something that is beyond him and in the end he is given what he wants, but only slightly.
  • The movie is good but the real life story Not so much.

If this were a work of 100% fiction instead of 40% real life 50% fiction and 10% wishfull thinking then it would be a 4 to 5 star movie. But the truth is Rudy the real life guy according to team mates was a Jerk. They may use stronger lang... than that but basically they didn't like him at all. The Hollywood ending was a treat to watch but when you look into the story behind the show you find it is Far FAR beyond disapointing. Look up the real Rudy and see just how his life turned out. The Movie is great! Uplifting and well acted by all in it. But when I looked into the real life story it made me so sad that the movie lost 2 stars just on the lie.

In my opinion, the greatest sports movie of all time, and one of the best movies period. I know of no other movie that inspires you to pursue your dreams no matter the difficulty, like "Rudy" does.

Iv'e said this before and I'll say it again, if you don;t get inspired by watching this movie, I don't know what to say to you. Talk about a movie that has you rooting for the main protagonist all the way through it. Watching him go through all the stuff he had to go through and everybody saying that he can't play football for Notre Dame makes you feel for him so much. A brilliant performance by Sean Astin (post-Goonies,pre Lord of the Rings) he does such a freat job of getting you sucked into his story and by the end of the movie you're so emotionally invested, tears will be there. The film has a great message of not giving up and wanting to achieve your dreams and never giving. I still can't believe the people that i've talked to saying that they haven't got inspired after watching this. Shame, Shame, Shame
