i am a HUGE HUGE fan of these books...i absolutely adore the story and the characters....i was so excited when i found out they were making a movie of the first book in the trilogy and now i wish i had never watched it...this movie DESTROYED all of that...they butchered the story, they annihilated the characters...my best friend (who also loves the books) and i had to laugh through this movie to keep from crying...it was so bad....i would have given it ZERO stars if that was possible...

if i could, i would rate it a zero, this movie ruined a great series of books. the characters weren't even what they were supposed to look like.

this trilogy is what got me reading fantasy novels. i've read this trilogy plus everything else these two wrote over and over again. this movie was so early 80's animated with poor cgi added in. and i thought the dungeons and dragons movies was a let down, i keep telling people not to watch this. give us a real live action adaptation. if they can do it with the lord of the rings, then they can do it with this.
  • A first attempt

Like many others, I wish I could give a better rating to this first attempt at a DL movie. While choices were made to streamline the plot from the book, the real injustice here is the animation. The art direction is good, in my opinion - it's just the animation and the editing related to it that makes it funny in the wrong ways. Kudos to most of the voice acting and the musical score. Other than that, skip this and let Krynn dwell in your mind's eye.
  • Not Worth It

They skipped major portions of the book and got the plot almost completely wrong. I was hoping the strength of the actors would weigh in influence with the characters, but fell extremely short. I can't believe that Weis and Hickman would allow their names on such a ghastly interpretation of their work. For those of you who are fans of the Chronicles or Legends books: don't bother with this animated mockery as you won't be able to sit through the length.
  • Just get the book.

Rediculous. I loved this book, and the movie did no justice to it. The book was completely butchered. Many major points in the story were left out, and the movie was too rushed to get to the end. You weren't given the opportunity to appreciate what was said because of the flat voice acting, and the fact that by the time it was said, you were moved to a new scene. The animation was very choppy, and the computer animated graphics did not compliment the hand drawn graphics at all. The mixture of the two made you realize just how poor the other is. There are many graphical glitches, such as Verminaard's mace being stuck through his own body. All in all, if you want to appreciate this series at all, just get the book, you won't regret the choice.
  • Completely ruined a great story

This movie stunk. It was a terrible adaptation of a fantastic series. My first problem is I wonder if the person that wrote the screenplay even liked Weis and Hickman's story at all. It was butchered poorly. The original authors wrote some fantastic and important dialogue that was completely eliminated to be replaced with sub par stuff. Next, the animation for the most part looked out of the 80s, so it came across as very bad. Tanis was a ridiculous caricature of the half elf that is supposed to be the hero of the story. Last, the voice acting would have been better with real voice actors. Their phrasing seemed contrived at the best of times, completely unsympathetic at the worst. I had high hopes for this movie since the books are great and rarely a year goes by when I don’t read them again.
