The Robe

I purchased The Robe on 4/21/19 and can confirm that this is the HD CinemaScope Widescreen version. I immediately brought up the version available on Vudu via Movies Anywhere to verify that it looks the same. The other reviews stating that the HD version is full screen are no longer valid as of 4/21/19.

I love this movie. I watched it so many times growing up. It is one of the best American made movies, from its superb acting, authentic costumes, and heart breaking bibical storyline, you can't go wrong in getting this movie. Thank you intunes for puting my favorite bibical movies on sale right before Easter.

This is a HORRIBLE transfer version. Apple needs to fix this. Because I purchased this from my Apple account, this shows up in my Movies Anywhere digital locker. So I ran a test... Movies Anywhere, Amazon Prime, and Google Play ALL have (and play) the Full Remastered version in full CinemaScope 2.35:1 Ratio, and not this garbage transfer that Apple provides. This is a classic movie, and the first CinemaScope movie. It is too bad that Apple doesn’t care enough to fix their version. If you have this garbage Apple version, I would suggest you create and link up a Movies Anywhere account and watch from there. Once you have the Movies Anywhere account and link to your vendor accounts (iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, Vudu), all participating Studio movies will show up in your library at each vendor account.

No stars for Apple falsely indicating this would be the remastered HD version. Ended up with the full screen TV version with poor quality transfer. Apple should refund on that basis alone. Don't waste your money on this. Purchase the Blu-Ray... wish I had read the reviews first. Five stars for the nostalgia...Remember watching this movie on Easter as a child. Still holds up to the 1950s epics.

For those who can only judge things based on a limited life experience, this movie would seem to be overblown and corny. The simple fact is that this is how epic films were made in those days. They were not designed to please the great grandchildren of 1950s audiences. The Robe, Along with the Ten Commandments and a number of other films, established a hugely successful genre. They were very well received and did well at the box office, regarless of the opinions of the young turks at RT. My only criticism is that this version of The Robe (at least the SD version) is not the full CinemaScope version but the version chopped to play in small theaters in the 1950s to work on TVs of the 1970s. It's a pity. The original CinemaScope version was spectacular.

No indication of 4:3 ratio & horrible transfer quality - it's 1080 listing hints at the remastered version. A waste of time & money!

Not only is this movie in pan and scan. It looks worse than a VHS! Want my money back. Not in HD either. If you know how I can get my money back, please let me know.

It is ashame that Hollywood does not make movies like those of the past. Now it's sex sex sex sex.....everytime it's shown it grosses me out!!! When it was alluded too with the expectation of intercourse then your imagination took over. Now kids rely on Hollywood to teach them everything. The 30's-40's-50'sate referred as to the golden age of Hollywood where there was some decency of the time but I don't mind some of the profanity or blood & gore but again let the audience USE THEIR IMAGINATION !!

iTunes says it is the first film filmed in CinemaScope, & the iTunes trailer is widescreen CinemaScope with black letter boxing top & bottom. The iTunes movie I purchased is tv-screen-shaped, what's been referred to as wide screen. How can I get The Robe in Cinemascope widescreen for my iPhone 6+? I'm watching the sequel in widescreen CinemaScope: Demetrius and the Gladiators. Its opening scene is in widescreen CinemaScope & shows the end of The Robe in widescreen CinemaScope.

From the golden age of HollyWood when a religious themed movie could be treated with respect AND be a best picture contender. Great filmography and acting, depicting the full range of emotion, heartache and inner turmoil people experience when ones life is forever changed. A classic in the truest sense of the word.
