Loved this movie from the time I was three. Still don't understand why Alan Rickman didn't make the cover with the other three co-stars though.

This is the most overrated movie I have ever seen. Visually drab and dramatically boring. The whole story is predicated on communication breakdowns which by repetition grow tiresome. Though it is star studded it is poorly cast. The respective roles both male and female do not seem to be played by age appropriate actors. There isn't one compelling romance in the whole picture.

The acting is superb. The attention to detail that authenticates the period in dress, manners, and setting is fabulous. The adaptation from the book is nicely done. I think it is as good as the A & E production of Pride and Prejudice. I only have two criticisms. First, the mother, Mrs. Dash wood, appears too old to be the mother of the youngest daughter. Secondly, sometimes the dialogue is unintelligible or difficult to catch. These are minor points and closed captioning takes care of the second issue very nicely.
  • No Chemistry

Although the story line is engaging, I must admit I did not enjoy this film. The main reason is that there is no chemistry between what are supposed to be romantic couples. The whole thing just feels awkward.

I was looking forward to watching this. But it seemed like way more drama than what was intended. Hugh grant was amazing for his character but I would have to say Pride and Prejudice is way better. I know it's a different story but it was much better.
