Valley of the Dolls

This movie really epitomizes the 60's in every sense. Love Sharon Tate!

I just finished the book and absolutely loved it so I was so excited to watch the movie, what a disappointment. It doesn't stick with the story at all and leaves so many characters, and stories out. If you like the book don't waste your time with this. Patty Duke did play Neely very well though, which is basically the only bright spot about this movie.

The movie doessn't do the book any justice, granted it was made decades ago but it still should've stayed true to the orignal novel. It wasn't as ground breaking as the critics made it out to be, i was hoping for more cutting edge. However if you are a fan of the book, watch the movie its fun to pin-point all the things they left out or changed.

Okay, so its campy and corney...but is jackie Susanne, and its 1960s hollywood dreams gone wrong! Fun! Patty Duke plays Neely O'hara, a recent hollywood success who soon turns to pills and booze to overcome her poor sucessful self (hum I can think of a few recent cases of that) Barbara Parkins is boring but pretty as Ann and right off the set of Peyton Place which was a huge sucess back in 67. That leaves Sharon Tate, who really steals the show here with beauty that truly is "breath taking" and so much potential as an actress you can see why the term "screen presence" was simply made for her. I have seen this...well more than I care to mention but its a 60s classic. You will find yourself fast forwarding through it after a few views just to see Sharon Tate more. Remember after all that this book was the naughty bedside reader of its time...so very tame by todays standards...So sit back, relax, and enjoy the show of music, hairstyles, and costumes, as well as drama thats almost funny at times. Sharon was nominated for a Golden Globe as best new actress/actor...she lost to Dustin Hoffman for the graduate..Enjoy!

I truly loved this movie and have seen it many times. It is campy and fun and very intense. Jackie Susan left us a legacy that will live on forever with this one. I bought the special edition and watch it all the time. I am also reading the book now for the second time. Give this one a try.....you will not be disappointed.

Gotta get, gonna get, have to get this movie! Although the critics “drummed right out of Hollywood,” this happens to be my favorite movie of all time. The fabulously sixties hairdos, glitzy costumes, laughably memorable soundtrack, and over-the-top histrionics make for a highly watchable camp-classic. Finish your bust exercises, put on your barely pink lipstick, spritz on a bottle of Gillian Hairspray, and prepare to get “hooked” on “Valley of the Dolls!”
