Description

A bumbling professor accidentally invents flying rubber, or "Flubber," an incredible material that gains energy every time it strikes a hard surface. It allows for the invention of shoes that can allow jumps of amazing heights and enables a modified Model-T to fly. Unfortunately, no one is interested in the material except for Alonzo Hawk, a corrupt businessman who wants to steal the material for himself.

If only Disney would make more of these movies. Anymore movies today are pure crap.

I remember watching this movie when I was a child and it was in color, is it possible for iTunes to release the color version? It is a great movie, but I remember it in color and not in black and white.

This is one of those movies that people just simply don’t have a good reason to ignore, yet they seem to do so anyway. Almost no one I know has seen it or heard of it. Rather, they have all seen the remake, which I would argue is just simply not funny, but potty humor aimed at kids. This movie however, is good. It's wholesome, oriented towards the ENTIRE family, and is in actually pretty hilarious. The premise is just as about as much fun as movies can get. A decent man is trying to win back the heart of his fiancé while he meanwhile discovers an amazing scientific phenomena that allows people to bounce increasingly higher and higher or fly automobiles . The characters in the movie are identifiable in a Disney sort of way. While it may seem hard at first to sympathize with a man who misses his own wedding 3 TIMES, once the film shows how easily distracted he gets, while all the time good willing, it becomes much more understandable. Likewise the villains goals are also pretty recognizable. There's the snub/pretentious literature professor from the rival school trying to steal his fiancé with excessive quotations of poetry(surely we all know this guy), and then there's the business man who’s only interest is to make money off the professors invention. Amongst all this, the professor just simply wants to help society with his invention. The gags are funny, in a way that’s not hard to appreciate. The best example would be when the business man is tricked into trying on the flubber shoes, and does know how to control them. He continues to bounce higher and higher as the town tries the craziest antics involving the schools football team, fire department and whatever else to get him to stop bouncing. If this sounds corny, I’ll have you know that it is a corny film, but all the same its a lot of fun.

While I love this movie and am so glad it is on the iTunes Store, it is rather misleading that they use a color "poster" to advertise the movie. It was originally shot in Black & White but later colorized for the VHS release in the late 80's. I was hoping for the color version as the "green" flubber was so much more interesting than the dark grey flubber. :-) All in all it is still a fun movie to watch even with the black & white footage, if anyone rents or purchases this be advised you are purchasing/renting the black & white version (which looks great on HDTV by the way since there isn't a whole lot for the TV to have to process).
