Description

An electrical accident in Medfield College's new computer system shocks dim-but-cuddly undergraduate Dexter Riley into instant genius. The original owner, notorious criminal A.J. Arno, had vital racketeering numbers in the computer, all of which have found their way into Dexter's brain. Not only is Dexter smarter, but he knows all the criminal's secrets.

Classic Medfield College hijinks. However, there are a couple of items to consider when watching it with your children, if you are very conservative like I am. You may not even think about this stuff. The bad guys are bad guys, so they do bad things, and that's easy enough to explain to the kids. They gamble, smoke, drink, and attempt to murder the hero, but that's pretty much essential to the plot. When they scan the hero's brain, they find him thinking about advanced calculus but also about his girlfriend in a bikini. There is also a reference to a cubist painting entitled "nude descending a staircase", which is completely unrecognizable as such. The young men comment about how it would never make it into Playboy. The hero also kisses two girls that he hasn't really even met yet. Those things aren't really that crazy, I know. These are college boys, But I wasn't expecting to have to deal with any sexuality in this film. But we enjoyed the film enough. Mindless fun.

A non-cartoon Disney movie with good, clean fun for all involved in the vein of other great Disney Classics such as "Flubber", "Herbie Goes To Monte Carlo", "The Shaggy Dog" and countless others. Featuring a young Kurt Russell, Caesar Romero, Joe Flynn, and even a teenaged Jon Provost who starred in the b&w "Lassie" series. It's a great historical document of Disney, circa 1969. This movie falls in the shadow of acknowledged Disney "Classics" such as "Pinnochio", or "Swiss Family Robinson", or even (for some) "The Little Mermaid", but such status is largely undeserved. Taken in the spirit it's meant, a great, fun movie worth owning.
  • A Curse OF a Movie!

The Computer wore Tennis Shoes is the worst movie since FernGully and Ray. Dexter's character seems to forget his lines and his reaon for being in this film numerous times and frankly explains why no one knows what happened to him after all these years. This movie shows us all that Disney gave up in the 60's and hasnt put any effort into its movies since then.
