This movie has to be 5 stars. Because it has Space Herpes.
  • This movie has the N'word in it. How can you say it's PG13?

Please review these movies prior to posting their rating. There is no way this should be rated PG.
  • One of my favorite camp movies, it's a real 80's gem...

I loved this movie as a child, and I still love it every bit as much today. This movie is great sci-fi camp from the 80's. It's funny as hell and over the top (on purpose), for example the crew's spaceship gets space herpes for crying out loud! If you enjoy sci-fi, especially from the 80's, buy this puppy and enjoy. I watch it just about every year, and look forward to watching it with buddy's that have never seen it. Now go get some beers and watch ICE PIRATES!!!

Saw this when it first came out, and have loved it ever since. It is hilarious and keeps you interested from the getgo. Robert Urich was a fantastic actor, sad that he died so young. Ron Perlman was great, too. Angelica Huston was totally out of character, but she was great.

This is definitely an under-appreciated classic, it seems a lot of viewers go in with different expectations for what the film is or should be, if you go in expecting a traditional Science Fiction film, you're more than likely going to be disappointed, if you look at it as a comedy that just happens to take place in space, then you may be more favorably inclined towards it Highlights; the "Stooges" style antics of the "soldierbots" the accelerated-aging fight and call me morbid if you must, the reactions of the robo-family, specifically "Daddybot" after "Baby" and "Mommy" got run down in the motorcycle chase, his robotic distress is somehow both amusing and wrong at the same time
  • Great 80's fun!

Saw this movie when I was a kid and fell in love with it! Even to this day, some 20 years later, it still is one of my all-time faves right up there with Star Wars! If you want a fun campy sci-fi swashbuckling comedy, you need not look any further than Ice Pirates!
  • Why hasn't this been reviewed before? What a classic!

If you have never seen this film (which is probably why you're reading this review), then let's get some basics down first: #1: This movie is from the early 80s, and as such is very campy, light on the sexual inuendos and extremely heavy on the bad "special effects"... in fact, at this point I don't think you can even call them "special." It's just makeup and poorly made puppets on strings. #2: As a kid watching this in the 80's, it was scary (harpies!!) and funny and even a little sexy (kissing!).. but as an adult it's just too mild to watch for the first time and find "wonderful." At best, an adult who loved B movies would find this greatly humerous and worth the money. #3: If you are a younger person watching this, especially pre-teen, you'll probably love it! Otherwise, keep tongue firmly planted in cheek and go on a fun ride through campy sci-fi romance from the 80's. In closing: I gave 5 stars for "classic" value as an oldy but a goody, and 3 stars for lasting appeal through the ages = average of 4 stars. Have fun!
