Description

A volcanic explosion releases an army of gigantic man-eating scorpions. Now the fate of mankind rests on the shoulders of Hank Scott (1950s monster movie stalwart Richard Denning) as the creatures rip a train from its tracks, snatch a helicopter from the sky and, in the film's most gripping sequence, battle each other in their subterranean lair. Incredible special effects by Willis O'Brien (the original "King Kong," "Mighty Joe Young") highlight this classic sci-fi entertainment.

This may be my favorite 1950's giant monster film. It really scared me as a kid and the stop motion special effects are still fantastic. The train attack scene is really great.
  • Long before computer-generated scorpions...

One of the lesser-known but still worthwhile animated films from the 1950's, because of the asociated name of legendary stop-motion animator Willis O'Brien! I had always thought that the giant scorpions in this film had strange faces, but the animation of these huge beasties within the dark caverns is one of my favorite monster movie scenes! Watch for actor Richard Denning ( "Creature from the Black Lagoon" ). All in all, pretty good Saturday afternoon matinee fare!
  • A decent monster movie.

Before you decide to read the ludicrous review by waffles 345, keep this in mind- it's a film made in the 1950s! Yah, there's no gore and it's black and white....so who cares? Does that make it unwatchable? I and a majority of people think that people who hate movies for those reasons are really full of crap. Any way, Apple has already given a description for the story, so I won't go any further in it. The special effects, as it says, are done by Willis O'Brien (Lost World, King Kong, Son of Kong <--{Will Apple upload these three movies?}, and Giant Behemoth) and they look spectacular. You may notice a few continuity errors, but not much. All in all, it's ok. On a serious note. People, get it and make your own reviews. We need to make sure that people don't hate movies for dumb reasons like whether it's in black and white, or if there's gore, or effects.

Its just me but black and white stinks. This would look alot better if it was something more gory and bloody and in color!
